Phase 1:
1.1 Design brief – Problem statement:
My friend has opened his own motor mechanical workshop.
He unfortunately can’t afford to a hoist to lift the vehicles that come
into his workshop so that he can work under the vehicle. My friend has
asked me to design a crawler that he can use with a jack so that he
can work on the under parts of the vehicles that comes to his
workshop. He has told me that I must use recycled materials and
must always be able to slide on four wheels.
1.2 Design brief – Solution statement:
I will be designing a crawler that is made from low-cost materials. For
this crawler to work properly I will have to get the dimensions, stability
that the middle piece of the crawler doesn’t break and the right
thickness of the materials. So that his business can operate at its full
potential.

1.3 List of Specifications:
Dimensions: Length, breadth, and width of the crawler.
Material Strength: Thickness of the material to support the weight
without breaking or sliding.
Wheel Specifications: Type of wheels and their attachment method.
Tool Holder: Design and placement for storing tools, nuts, and bolts.
Accessibility: Ensure easy access to the tool holder while working
underneath the vehicle.
1.4. List of Constraints:
Cost: Design must be affordable using recycled materials.
Weight Limit: Crawler must support the weight of vehicles without
buckling.
Height Clearance: Must be able to slide under vehicles lifted by a jack.
Durability: Materials must withstand how often it is used.
Mobility: Wheels must pivot easily for smooth movement under
vehicles.
