Gen2 Printer information
Gen2 printers began shipping in 2017, but not all printers shipped since 2017 are Gen2. There is, and may continue to
be, a mix of Gen1 and Gen2 printers in the installed base and new releases.
Gen2 printers support enhanced capabilities that are not enabled on Gen1 printers (See the existing Gen1 vs. Gen2
printer training for more information.)
To determine if a printer is Gen2 & supports Print Anywhere use one of the options below:
1. Recommended: Add the printer to the HP Smart app and swipe to make it the current printer displayed in the
printer carousel. Tap the Printer Settings tile or tap the printer icon to open printer settings, and look for the Print
Anywhere option in Printer Settings. The option will only appear for Gen2 printers supported by Print Anywhere.
2. Alternate: Go to the mobile printing solutions support page ([Link]
and confirm if Print Anywhere is included as a supported feature on that printer
3. Alternate2: The Web Services info sheet are different for Gen1/Gen2 printers. Gen1: WS info sheet is landscape,
includes both blue and black ink, & has graphics. Gen2: WS info sheet is portrait, text only, and is only B&W.
Examples of Gen2 printers (partial list):
Envy Photo 7800, Envy Photo 7100, Envy Photo 6200, Envy 5000, Officejet 5200, HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 5075
All-in-One, HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 5275 All-in-One, HP OfficeJet Pro 7700 (7720, 7730) Wide Format All-in-One.

Sharing Print Anywhere
• There is no “Share” feature that allows customers to share a Print Anywhere printer
w/another user.
• The credentials used to sign into the app on each device must be the same ones on
the HP Connected account where the printer is claimed.
• We can not tell customers to share their HP Connected account credentials with
others to share Print Anywhere due to privacy concerns. We can only tell them the
requirements (above bullet).
• If the printer is moved to a different HP Connected account users must log in again to
HP Smart app using the new HP Connected account credentials.
1. Android/Windows/Mac app only: Printer must be added to the HP Smart app carousel when both the printer and
mobile device are on the same local Wi-Fi network before using Print Anywhere on a remote network or mobile
data. If the printer is not first added to the carousel when on the same Wi-Fi network, Print Anywhere will not be
able to find the printer via cloud connection. iOS app does not require this pre-connection.
Print Anywhere
Experiences
Performance
• Print performance will vary across local Wi-Fi printing, remote Wi-Fi printing, and
remote cellular printing.
• Real world printer discovery when the app is opened on a remote connection - may
range from 5s to 45
• Printer status may take up to 45s to update depending on connection quality and
timing of request from the app. Pull down on the home screen to refresh status
manually.
File support
• No change from current: iOS – JPG, PDF, PNG, Office Docs; Android – JPG, PDF, PNG;
Windows – JPG, JPEG, PNG, BMP, PDF, Office Docs; Mac – JPG, PDF (Remaining TBD)

also provides paper stack level.)
• If there is a warning or error communicated by the printer, it is presented similar to local network
printer alerts, via HP Smart app and HP Print Plugin (Android) alert notifications, with basic information
about the printer error.
• Get More Help links on Printer Error notifications - iOS: Get More Help Links to additional support
options included. Android: Support links will be added to printer error messages in a future release.
• Status not updated as often/quickly as local printing. Pull down on app home screen to update status.
• Supported alerts include: Open doors, media jams, low on ink, low/out of media, and other common
printer alerts. Some alerts may not be available during remote connections.
• Printer status may take up to 45s to update depending on connection quality and timing issues
• During printing, the app will continue to check job status and report back if there are job errors, and
notify on completion. iOS uses notification center in-app. Android uses in-OS Print Plugin Notifications.

creating a new HPC account so the printer can be auto-claimed to
the account. They must reach the “Activated” screen in the setup
flow. Customers with a Tango or future Gen2 printers are auto-
logged into the app and Print Anywhere is enabled.
• Android only: If the HP Print Plugin is not present or not the
version required to support Print Anywhere, the customer will be
prompted to go to the Google Play store to install/update.
• If Print Anywhere is not enabled, the Print Anywhere menu
option in Printer Settings to go to the Print Anywhere screen
to enable it.
• Older (pre-Tango) Gen2 printers: After completing printer
setup in the mobile app, the customer must log into the HP

Print Anywhere
Job Blocked
• After a print job is sent from the app, if there is an issue blocking the job at the printer
(e.g., paper or carriage jam, runs out of paper, etc.):
• iOS, Windows, & Mac – HP Smart app notifies via standard printer alerts and provides assistance in
resolving the issue. The customer can cancel the job via the job status notification.
• Android – HP Print Plugin (which handles printing on Android for the HP Smart app) provides error
notifications and messaging on the issue blocking the print and access to a Cancel option. The HP
Smart app will also receive printer error status and provide additional help options.
• If a print job is blocked for more than five minutes the app will stop attempting to
complete the print. When the printer is re-enabled to print the job will not complete
and will need to be resent. This is the same as with local network HP Smart printing.
• The printer memory may retain some portion of a print job that does not complete in
it’s memory. A partial page print out may occur if the printer is re-enabled to print and
the page feed button to resume printing is pressed on the printer.
Print Anywhere
Common problems
• Reasons why a remote printer may not show up, or shows up offline
• Web Services may not be enabled on the printer or it may not be claimed to an HPC
account
• Customer may not be logged into HP Smart app
• Customer is not logged in to the Smart app w/the same HP account credentials used
to claim the printer on HPC
• Printer is off, or has a connection issue with the local network, internet, or HP Cloud
• There is a temporary issue with service reliability of Web Services
• Android, Windows, & Mac: Printer was not added to the app home screen when on
the same local network as the mobile device, before trying to use Print Anywhere
from a remote connection
• Android: Location permissions are not enabled for the HP Smart app
Print Anywhere
Troubleshooting
If printer does not show up as available for remote print on the app home screen carousel,
or the printer appears available but jobs do not reach the printer/start to print:
1. Ensure printer is on & online, added to HPC account, & customer is signed into HP
Smart app using the same HPC account credentials used to add printer to HPC
2. Android, Windows, & Mac: Ensure printer was added HP Smart carousel while on the
same Wi-Fi network as the printer, before attempting to connect to the printer
remotely
3. Android: Enable location permissions for the Smart app if they are not enabled
4. Confirm mobile device is connected to the internet.
Use normal Web Services troubleshooting to ID/resolve any general WS connectivity
issues, e.g., check status of any Web Services service alerts on outages, confirm printer
appears on HPC account and shows online/ready, etc., remove/re-add printer to HPC…
In some cases, as with HP ePrint, occasionally jobs may be lost and have to be resubmitted

• Accessed from a new “Copy” tile
• Copy is only available with the TANGO printer for now. It will be enabled for other
printers in the future.
• Once the Copy tile is added to the app home screen when a TANGO printer is added to
the app, the Copy tile will also appear with other printers, but will be disabled.
• There are no options to save or share/send content as with scan flows. The content can
only be sent to the printer to be printed.
• Copies can be printed in color or black and white

Post-OOBE Enable Windows & Mac
Print Anywhere will need to be enabled after OOBE if is not fully enabled during setup
Print Anywhere is not enabled during OOBE if:
• The full printer setup process is not completed in HP Smart for Windows or Mac.
• The customer must not exit the setup flow before the HP Connected login is completed and the “Activated”
Screen appears. Any exit before that point will leave the Print Anywhere feature disabled.
• Customers will need to log in to HP Connected if not already logged in. Customers are not
logged into HPC automatically after installing a new printer, even if HPC credentials were used
during setup.
• If the printer has already been PA enabled outside the app by a different copy of HP
Smart, the app still needs to be made aware that the customer intends to use the Print
Anywhere feature. This requires the user open Printer Settings>Print Anywhere. The
“Enabled” message will then appear and Print Anywhere will be activated on that copy
of HP Smart app.
