Troubleshooting
• Troubleshooting is a form of problem solving, often applied to repair
failed products or processes on a machine or a system.
• It is a logical, systematic search for the source of a problem in order to
solve it, and make the product or process operational again.
• Troubleshooting is needed to identify the symptoms.

System Not Starting
• Scenario 1: Your System not Started, No Sound Produced.
• This directly Means that POST is not Working:
• POST: Power On Self Test 
• Check the power cord whether planted properly or not. 
• In case of laptop battery may not be charged, plug the charger in and
then try switching it on.
• In case you want to check the power cord plant it in another port if it
is working then there is some hardware issue.
Beep Sounds
• Usually error code are displayed on the screen
• Easiest way of troubleshooting is follow the error code and try to solve as
guided.
• These Sound issue depends upon the manufacturer.
• Common Sound Issues:
• 1 long, 2 short Video adapter error
• Repeating beeps Memory error: Bad or improperly seated RAM
• 1 long, 3 short Bad video RAM or video card not present
• High-frequency beeps Overheated CPU: Check fans
• Repeating high/low beeps CPU: Improperly seated or defective CPU
Troubleshooting Printer
• Check the cartridge paper tray
• Check the printer is properly
plugged and turned on.
• Check there is cartridge in the
printer and ink is filled in it
• Check the paper tray
• If everything fine then there is
no issue related to ink and
paper.

• Check the Communication between Computer and Printer
• Check whether any update took place automatically, or you have
updated something in the machine
• If its not the case Check the cord.
• If cord is plugged properly and there is power in the printer.
• Try another way.
Another way to Troubleshoot Printer
• Check the drivers for the printer are properly installed or not.
• Go to My Computer Icon Right click on it.
• Go to Manage
• Go to Device Manager
• Go to Printer
• Right Click on it to check whether device is working properly or not

Another way to Troubleshoot Printer
• If it is written device is not working properly.
• Reinstall the drivers of the printer.
• Restart the PC/Laptop.
• Now ,you have a printer in a working state.
Not Able to Share Files
• Although, File sharing is switched on
by default, in case any issue appears
you can check:
• Search for Control Panel in Windows
Search and open it.
• Click on Network and Sharing Center
• Click on Change Advanced Settings
from the left sidebar.
• Under Private (current profile), ensure
Turn on network discovery and Turn on
file and printer sharing are checked.

Share a Particular File on Network
• Then Follow these steps to share :
• Right click on the folder to be shared.
• Go to Properties.
• Go to Sharing Tab
• Click on Share.
• Select Everyone from the drop down list.
• Select Read/Write in the permission level.
• Click on Share.
• Click on Done.
• Your File is shared on the same network.
Input Output Devices Troubleshooting
• Keyboard Troubleshooting
• Check that keyboard is plugged in properly.
• If the keyboard has illuminated LED indicators for Num Lock, Caps
Lock, or Scroll Lock, try rebooting the computer and see if pressing
these keys toggles the indicator on and off.
• You can also test your keyboard by trying to press the key to enter the
BIOS setup. This key is usually F2, F12, or Del. Your computer's boot
messages specifies the correct key.
• There can be an issue from the window end.
Keyboard
• Try booting your PC in Safe Mode.
• If your keyboard works in Safe Mode, try uninstalling or reinstalling
any recently added software.
• If Num Lock and Caps Lock is not working then try with another
keyboard.

Keyboard is still not Working
• Then Reinstall the Keyboard Through Device Driver
• Windows has a built-in Device Manager to help you to identify and
resolve issues with hardware devices, including keyboards.
• Open the Device Manager and verify no yellow exclamation marks are
seen and that a Keyboards option is listed.
• If no errors are seen, and Keyboards is visible, click the arrow next to
Keyboards and highlight the keyboard device.

Keyboard is still not Working
• Once highlighted, right-click the device and choose Uninstall. Repeat
this step until Keyboards is no longer listed in Device Manager.
• Once complete, highlight the computer at the top of the Device
Manager list and then click Actions and then Scan for hardware
changes.
• If the keyboard is working and detected, it should be re-detected by
Windows and re-appear. After this step is complete, test the keyboard
again.
• If the above solution does not work, you need to replace the
keyboard.
Audio Not Working
• Reboot your computer.
• Verify via the speaker icon in the
taskbar that the audio is not muted
and is turned up.
• Ensure that the computer isn’t
muted via hardware, such as a
dedicated mute button on you laptop
or keyboard. Test by playing a song.
• Right-click the volume icon and click
Open Volume Mixer. Ensure that all
options are on and turned up. Fig 7. Audio

Audio Not Working
• Internal speakers still not working on your laptop?
• Plug headphones into the audio jack and test again.
• If the headphones work, remove them to continue troubleshooting
the internal speakers.
• For desktop systems with speakers plugged into the 3.5mm jack, try a
USB speaker or USB headphones. (Or visa versa.)
• If the alternative device works, remove it to continue troubleshooting
the initial set of speakers.
Audio Not Working
• Right-click the volume icon again and
choose Open Sound settings.
• In the window that opens, find Related
Settings, then click on Sound Control
Panel.
• In the Playback tab, confirm that your
audio device (likely ‘Speakers’) has a green
checkmark next to it. Then click Properties
and make sure that Use this device
(enable) is selected.
• If your sound still doesn’t work by this
point, you may have a missing or corrupt

driver for your audio controller.
Audio Not Working
• Uninstall the driver. Open the Device Manager (type device manager
in the taskbar search box), go to Sound, video and game controllers,
select the audio controller for the device that’s malfunctioning, and
press the Delete key.
• Reboot the system and allow Windows to reinstall the driver, which it
should do automatically. If it doesn’t, download the driver from your
PC maker’s site or audio card manufacturer’s site, and reinstall it
manually.
