Design of frame side members
The front end of the chassis frame is wider than the rear part. The front part of the
side members is angled outwards 2.7º starting 2,055 mm behind the first front axle.
The angle is the same for all frame types.
Chassis frames can have 2 different internal widths, depending on whether they are
single or double frames 1:
• 752 mm for F700, F800 and F950 2,7° 2 055
• 735 mm for F957 and F958
The external width of the chassis frame varies depending on the thickness of the
frame. Refer to the dimensions for each frame type in the table at the beginning of
735
this document.
752
The side members are equally high throughout their length with the exception of low
tractors with configuration LA4x2MEB or LA6x2/4MLB, which have suspension in
the rear axle of a different height.

Pilot holes
All vehicles have 2 positioning holes with a diameter of 9.2 mm which mark the
nominal axis distance between the front axle and the first rear axle.

Double frames 326 JR
Frame side members on frame types F957 and F958 are reinforced with an inner
frame.
The inner frame starts 326 mm behind the first front axle and ends the following dis-
tance behind the first driving axle with the measurement JR (found in ICS).
A chassis can be specially ordered with an inner frame extending to the end of the
342 985
chassis frame. Please contact your Scania dealer.
JR is the measurement from the first driving rear axle to the end of the inner frame.
Note: The dimensions are in ICS.
Dimensions may deviate for certain vehicles with special order.
Further information on a specific chassis can be found in the individual chassis spec-
ification (ICS) and the individual chassis drawing (ICD).

Design of crossmembers
Crossmembers may be designed in many different ways depending on which chassis
frame they are fitted to and where they are located. Example:
• Crossmembers may be all in one piece (1). 1
• Some crossmembers are only complete when they are welded together with end
pieces (2 and 3). These crossmembers only exist by themselves in one length. The
length of the finished crossmember varies as the crossmember and the end pieces
are welded together in different ways.
2
• Crossmembers may be single (2) or double (3).
• Crossmembers come in various plate thicknesses depending on the type of chassis
frame.
• Trucks with air suspension have a cast crossmember with a closed cross-section
in front of each driving axle (4). 3
Position of crossmembers
For trucks with modular holes, the position of the third crossmember is standardised
to 2,075 mm from the front axle.
4
This excludes trucks with double front axles, all-wheel drive, 6x2Z with axle dis-
tance of 3,100 mm, 6x2/2, 6x2/4 with axle distance of 3,850, 4,050 and 4,100 mm
and some tractors.
See ICD for the location of other cross members.
