The Bangladesh Taka (BDT) depreciated by 0.43 per cent against the US dollar on a single day, Iollowing
an increased demand Ior the US currency in the Iorex market to settle import payments by the commercial banks.
The US dollar was quoted on the day at Tk 77.21- Tk 77.80 in the inter-bank Ioreign exchange market against Tk
77.14- Tk 77.20 oI the previous working day, according to the central bank statistics.
The BDT depreciated by 1.38 per cent against the US dollar the same day at the customer level, which
also might contribute to raise in general prices Iurther. Because oI this, export will increase and import will decrease.
Balance oI payment will also have an eIIect on this. Balance oI payment represents diIIerence between total export &
import in a Iiscal year.
Not only that, The country is deprived oI earning Tk 8.00 billion in Ioreign exchange due to sharp Iall in
purchase oI Ilats and residential plots by non -resident Bangladeshis (NRBs) in Middle Eastern countries, Sheltech
managing director TouIiq M Seraj said.
Mr. Seraj said: "The main buyers oI country's real estate sector are the expatriates in the middle East countries. A
large number oI workers returned home penniless aIter political turmoil in some countries resulting in sharp Iall in Ilat
and plot sale." He said interested people will be able to buy 3 to 5 kathas oI land at Ashulia at a price worth Tk 7.04m
to Tk 2.76 million respectively and the price oI per square Ioot oI a Ilat will be Tk 5000 at old town and Tk 15,000 at
Dhanmondi aIter 15 per cent discount."
According to the oIIer, the price oI per square Ioot oI a Ilat has come down to nearly Tk 14,000 and Tk
16,000 in the city's posh areas like Banani and Dhanmondi respectively Irom the existing rate oI Tk 16,000 and Tk
21,500 aIter 15 per cent discount. A Ilat buyer in these areas will get another opportunity to have 3.5 katha land at
Ashulia iI he or she does not take 15 per cent discount oIIer. The customers also have the option to buy maximum 50
kathas oI land in Ashulia.

In the original budget, budget deIicit was estimated at 5 percent oI GDP. In the revised budget, deIicit
will decrease to 4.5 percent oI GDP. Out oI this, 2 percent will be Iinanced Irom external sources and the rest 2.5
percent Irom domestic sources. Overall budget deIicit will be Tk. 39,323 crore, which is 5 percent oI GDP. The deIicit
will be Iinanced up to Tk. 15,643 crore (2 percent oI GDP) Irom external sources and Tk. 23,680 crore (3percent oI
GDP) Irom domestic sources. Domestic Iinancing includes Tk. 15,680 crore (2 percent oI GDP) Irom banking sources
and Tk. 8,000 crore (1 percent oI GDP) Irom non-banking sources, the major portion oI which will come Irom
National Savings CertiIicates. Like in the previous years, this year also, we are attaching preIerence to concessional
external Iinancing having less conditionality.
The US economy grew at an annualized rate oI 2.5 in the third quarter oI this year, according to Iigures
Irom the US Commerce Department. The Iigure was in line with expectations and a signiIicant improvement on
growth in the second quarter oI the year oI 1.3. Growth was boosted by consumer and business spending as well as
international trade. It was also announced that new jobless claims Ior the week Iell to 402,000. The US economy
added 103,000 jobs in September, ahead oI many economists' expectations. UK shop price inflation Iell to its lowest

3.86 (-0.20).
One the other hand the Bangladesh scenario is totally diIIerent Irom those others country. Its inIlation rate
is continually upward pressure. Money value is decreasing here. Expatriates get back Irom abroad. So remittance will
be stumpy.
