Third Grade Teamwork

Third Grade students have been discussing what TEAMWORK means as a part of our schools theme. Groups of students were given a teamwork quote to analyze and discuss. Students then wrote what the quote means to them and how we show TEAMWORK at F.A. March Elementary School. In addition, students also worked as a team to create pictures with their hands that represent teamwork. Here are some examples of student work.
A boat doesnt go forward if each one is rowing their own way " -To my group, this quote means you cant row your own way. You have to agree on the way you will go. As a team, we could accomplish lots of things! Alone we can do so little. Together we can do so much. " -When you are alone, you may need help. When you have someone with you, its easier. No one can whistle a symphony. It takes a whole orchestra to play. " -To my group, this quote means you need more than one person to do a symphony. You need a few instruments to do a symphony. As a team, we work together to make an orchestra. Individually we are one drop. Together we are an ocean. " -To my group, this quote means when we are not working together, we are a drop. When we are working together, we are an ocean. If we are arguing we are drops. We are an ocean again if we work together.

Enrichment News
By Sara Telesz
Gifted students across the district, grades K-12, had the opportunity to experience what life was like in the late 1800s and early 1900s as they visited the Immigration Station at Ellis Island, NYC. F.A. March students who attended the trip were blasted into the past as they entered the Great Hall of Ellis Island and got an up close and personal view of the Statue of Liberty. Students learned about the history of the structures as well as the hardships immigrants faced as they made the long journey to their new life. Some families were even able to locate names of their own ancestors that came through the Immigration Station. Students continue to research and create projects based on what they have learned about this intriguing historical site.

All Kinds of Line

GOING BACK TO BASICS IN ART CLASS WITH MISS REIFSNDYER

This year in art class, Miss Reifsnyder has gone back to the basics, teaching the same art element to each grade at the same time. Grades 1st through 4th are currently learning about the element of line. Whether they are wiggly, squiggly, straight, curly, zig-zaggy, or dotted, children love to draw all types of line! At the start of the year, 1st grade worked on several small exercises to introduce them to line and just nished a Picasso-inspired bird project. 2nd grade focused specically on diagonal, horizontal, and vertical lines at the

start of the year, but are now learning about how they can use simple lines to create fun pieces of artwork, like their elephants! 3rd grade made crazy hair portraits, learning how combined lines can create pattern. Currently 3rd grade is using line to create a picture of the Grand Canyon. 4th grade students drew tropical birds, using lines inventively to suggest textures and patterns. Now in art class, the 4th grade students are drawing lines with glue to make pictures of tropical sh. They LOVE this project!
