• 2 weeks’ work placement with local solicitors’ firm working on housing, immigration,
family, employment and criminal law cases
• Shadowed a junior solicitor, gaining an understanding of how law works in practice, in
particular, the need for confidentiality and the importance of being well organised to
meet deadlines
• Helped sort paperwork into the correct files in preparation for an employment dispute.
• Photocopied legal materials and client letters

Planting Seeds Project East Sep 2019 – present


• Part of a team helping to make attractive green spaces for everyone in the local
community
• With other volunteers, help clear parks and empty spaces of litter, cut back overgrown
areas and plant bulbs and seeds
• Featured in a local newspaper article praising the work done in rejuvenating a rough site
in E1

Fundraising for Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT) and Comic Relief Nov 2018 and March 2019
• Organised a group of friends to hold Bake Sales to raise funds for these charities
• Publicised the event through Facebook, posters and social media
• Arranged with the School to let us set up stalls to sell cakes and biscuits, and asked the
teachers to mention it at the start of classes
• Raised £245 for TCT in November so we repeated it in March and raised £238 for Comic
Relief

Extracurricular Activities

Vice-President of the Mile End School Debating Society Oct 2021 – present
• Elected by the members of the Debating Society
• With the President, help organise debates for the 32 members of this society
• Topics have included ‘The voting age should be reduced to 16’; ‘It’s a man’s world’; and
‘It’s every person’s duty to buy ethical goods’
Peer Mentor for Mile End School Sep 2021 – present
• Selected from more than 50 applicants to act as a mentor to younger students within the
School
• Meet with my mentee every month to provide support and advice on studying and other
matters

Mile End School Ambassador Nov 2019


• Selected by teaching staff to represent the school at an Open Day visit by prospective
pupils and some of their parents.
• Greeted the visitors and made sure they knew where to go - and answered questions on
what life is like at the school.

Additional Skills and Interests

Languages: English (Fluent), Tamil (Native), Hindi (Intermediate), and Spanish (Intermediate)

IT Skills: Confident and regular user of Microsoft Office and social media, including
Instagram, Twitter and Facebook

Netball: Played weekly for a local netball team, the ‘Ravens’, participating in the Under 18
East London Tournament; came runners-up out of 32 teams in the 2018-19 competition

Dance: Member of local dance team, mostly involved in Bollywood dance which I have
practised for 6 years. We give regular performances in the community. Member of my
school’s street dance club
