Assignment 2
Late assignments are not normally accepted. A penalty oI 5 per day may apply to late
assignments. II you wish to apply Ior consideration Ior late submission, it must be done at least
one week prior to the due date in writing or via email. Include documentary evidence oI illness
(a medical certiIicate) or additional work commitments (a written conIirmation oI changed
work circumstances Irom your supervisor). For extension applications Ior other reasons,
please contact the examiner at least 2 weeks in advance oI the due date.
This assignment MUST be electronically submitted using the EASE link on your Study Desk.
There are instructions on how to prepare and submit your assignments available on the course
Study Desk.
Do NOT start assignment 2 until you have completed Iormative tests F3 and F4. It is
recommended that as you Iinish studying a topic, you answer the Iormative questions related
to that topic. AIter you have answered these Iormative questions correctly, you should then
proceed to do the assignment 2 questions associated with that topic.
Assignment 2 covers modules 7 to 11 in the study book. Topics included are:
AC circuit analysis
DC and AC measurements
Single-phase transIormers
Three-phase systems
Special instructions
NB: A maximum of 20 marks will be deducted if these instructions are not followed.
Do not include these assignment pages Irom the introductory book as part oI your
submission.
Assignments without a signed student declaration will NOT be assessed.
Answer ALL questions. Write answers to questions in sequential order.
List given data when it is not appropriate to annotate a circuit diagram.
Draw neat circuit diagrams/phasor diagrams, power diagrams and impedance triangles iI
required. Even iI a circuit diagram is given as part oI the question, you must redraw it
labelling all resistances, capacitance, emIs, voltage drops and currents as appropriate with
the correct symbols. Use standard/conventional drawing symbols.
DeIine all symbols used; i.e. state what the symbol stands for. Use the given labels, node
and terminal markings; then add to these as necessary.
State all Iormulae in terms oI these component symbols and labels, beIore introducing
numerical values.
Due date: 11 October 2010
Weighting: 20%

Show ALL steps necessary to obtain your answers. No marks will be given Ior answers iI
the necessary steps are not shown.
Use powers oI ten (engineering: o 3; 6; 9) notational and unit symbol preIixes: k; m; k; M
etc.
Give answers, in general, accurately to three signiIicant Iigures only (working to Iour
signiIicant Iigures).
Indicate ALL working in a logical sequence.
Show ALL units on data and on answers. (Use the SI system, augmented by approved unit
symbols only, as indicated in the study book.) Do not put unit symbols on values within
equations.
Number each page; assemble pages separately; indicate the question numbers distinctly in
the leIt margin.
BeIore submitting your assignment, make a copy as insurance against loss.
II you need help or are not sure about any aspects oI the instructions given Ior this assignment
contact the course examiner sharmausq.edu.au~ prior to submitting your assignment.
