ABSTRACT The study is about the usage of paper by the first year level of Lourdes School of Mandaluyong. The researchers want to seek and investigate how much paper does the High School students of Lourdes School of Mandaluyong in one week. The researchers of the group will record the weight of the used papers in the paper bins located inside the classrooms of the first year levels. Everyday there is one representative from each group. This representative will be the one who will gather data and record it on the Learning Activity Sheet given by the teacher. This study is also for the environment and the safety of it. With this investigation the student will realize how much paper they waste in one week. This study will hopefully warn the students of wasting papering reduce waste in Lourdes School of Mandaluyong.

INTRODUCTION Improper garbage disposal has been a concern not only in the Philippines, but also around the world. That is why the high school department of Lourdes school launched this investigation, so that they would be able to know the amount of paper are being used by the first year sections. The researchers are doing this, so they can support the ecology program, the Math area has thought of doing a simple mathematical Investigation that focuses on the different kinds of garbage like paper. The purpose of the investigation is to acquire the amount of paper used in the High School of Mandaluyong. The Mathematical investigation that the researchers are to conduct used papers from five sections as a basis of identifying the amount of 2

students.

Paper is the most common kind if trash that can be found on every school. Students are wasting paper, or they have money to buy paper. In Lourdes School of Mandaluyong, 1.5 kg of paper is being wasted by the first year High School students every day by the sections in first year. Our Math teacher told the researchers about the Investigative Paper. It aims to measure the amount (kilograms) of paper is being used every day by the first year classes. The mathematical investigation is focused on the amount of used papers are being collected from the paper bins of the five sections of the first year classes. Every dismissal time, the researchers collect the papers from the paper bins of the first year classes. Our group investigated on how many papers are used every day by the first year classes. On Friday, the researchers investigated and the researchers come up with 1.5 kilograms of paper is used by the first year classes. On measuring the weight of papers, the researchers used a weighing scale to measure the weight. The researchers used weighing scale because it is the most used and trustful in terms of getting the weight of an object. After measuring the weight of the paper, the researchers will record the gathered data on their learning activity sheet. After gathering all the data, the researchers will estimate the amount of papers consumed in two weeks, one month, and one Academic Year. The researchers got these results: first, in two weeks the researchers will be able to gather 21 kilograms of paper, second, in one month the researchers will be able to gather 46.5 kilograms of paper, and third, in one Academic Year the researchers will be able to gather 441 kilograms of paper. The researchers also computed and

estimated the amount of papers is consumed by the whole High School Students and the researchers got 8,379 kilograms of papers.

AMOUNT OF PAPERS USED BY THE HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT Every dismissal time, the researchers will collect the papers from the paper bins of the first year classes. After that one representative from each group shall be the one who will assemble in the High School Assembly Area and gather data. The representatives will assemble in the High School Assembly Area because that is where the teacher will conduct the measuring the weight of the papers. Using a weighing scale, the researchers will measure the weight of used papers every day. After measuring the weight of the used papers, the researchers will record the gathered data on the Learning Activity Sheet given by their Math teacher. The researchers estimated that in two weeks, the researchers will be able to gather 21 kilograms of used papers. In one month, the researchers will be able to gather 46.5 kilograms of paper. In one academic year, the researchers will be able to gather 441 kilograms of paper. Thus the whole High School Department will consume 8,379 kilograms of paper in one Academic Year.

MATHEMATICAL INSIGHTS The researchers can become factors of the huge amount of used papers whenever they waste paper in Lourdes School of Mandaluyong. They still contribute to the huge amount of trash in other places outside the school. The researchers become factors in making this used paper useful to Lourdes 4

School of Mandaluyong community by doing this report. Hopefully this report will inspire other people to do their part in helping our environment
