Certificate in Digital Signal Processing

Course 6.1: Fundamentals of Digital Signal Processing

Course Schedule: March 28th 2011 ~ May 27th 2011 Course Duration: 5-Day Intensive Class (March 28th ~ April 01st ; 8AM to 11AM and 1:00PM to 4PM)
8-week Webcasted Sections (April 04th ~ May 27th ; every Tuesday 9AM~11:30AM)

Course Overview
This course is an introduction to digital signal processing (DSP) concepts and implementation. It starts by explaining basic concepts of linear time-invariant systems, including sampling, quantization, convolution and reconstruction of analog signals. The course covers Fourier transform (FT), Fourier series (FS), discrete-time Fourier transform (DTFT), digital Fourier transform (DFT), fast Fourier transform (FFT), finite impulse response filters (FIR), and infinite impulse response filters (IIR). The Matlab will be used to design and simulate various signal processing systems.

Course Objective
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: - Understand the basic concepts of discrete-time signal processing - Understand concepts of LTI system, sampling, aliasing, quantization, time and frequency domain representation. - Understand the Fourier transform pairs of FT, FS, DTFT, DFT, and FFT - Understand the FIR filters and IIR filters - Be familiar with the direct form (canonical) implementations of discrete-time systems. - Understand the z-transform, and be able to utilize it in the design and analysis of time-invariant filters. - Understand the concepts of linear and circular convolution. - Be able to design and simulate various signal processing systems using MATLAB.
