Impact of improper waste management on environment Environmental impacts Some waste contains chemicals that can be released into

the environment if not disposed of properly. Some of these wastes include electronics, plastics, batteries, certain types of pressure treated wood and paint. Improper waste management on environment has bring along the huge environmental effect and cause serious problems. In UK, most is buried in landfill sites- holes in the ground, sometimes old quarries, sometimes specially dug. The results of this poor waste management is generate methane gas. Methane is a gases that is explosive and will contributes to the green houses effect. This will cause to pollution. Furthermore, Badly-managed of landfill may attract vermin or causes litter. Besides that, in Japan, without treatment into the Zintsu River, zinc mining industry at Kamioka is discharged effluents that containing toxic material. The water then is consumes by people around that area. According to the news report, In 1919, a thirty-five year old patient is said to have exhibited symptoms similar to those of ItaiItai disease, which is now known to be caused by cadmium poisoning. In 1955, ItaiItai disease was reported to the Society of Medicine. The government alomost ten years before the Japanese Government announced official findings on Itai-Itai disease that cadmium will linking to health problems. In another case, in Hamburg city of West Germany, during 1935 to 1971, about 150,000 m3 of waste oil as liquid chemical waste and 50,000 drums of solid chemical waste was dumped along with the city refuse in Georgswerder landfill site. The total area of the site is about 42 hectares and it is 40 m high. In 1983, dioxin was identified in the oily leachate from the landfill site. The cleaning up cost of this site would be more than 100 million Deustche Mark. One of the most alarming case came into limelight in 1988 when village Bichhri of Udaipur district suffered a heavy toll because of water pollutants released from Silver Chemicals Factory. The water has become red all over from the dye stuff waste released by the factory. The effect of drinking this water is vomit and grass cannot grow near the pools containing this water. Today, in December 1990, the water continues to be contaminated, as the amount of pollutants is virtually 1.5 lakh times the standards of safety prescribed by an Aligarh Muslim University study. According to the Observer, the authorities have sued the culprits but procedures of court are too long to provide instant respite to residents of Bichhri village. All this real reports shows that improper waste management will bring the bad effects to environment and finally back to human. Moreover, incinerating waste also causes problems. This is because when plastics is burn, it tend to produce toxic substances, such as dioxins. Because of these

problems there are active campaigns against waste incineration. Greenpeace actively worked on these issues and some information, including a map of UK waste incinerators, can be found by searching the Greenpeace website for waste incineration. However, burning waste can generate energy and there are operational schemes. The Renewable Energy Association website provides more information including a map of biomass and energy from waste projects.

Finally, in India, the commercialized hazardous waste treatment and disposal facilities are not existing and only some major industrial units have self-contained hazardous waste treatment and disposal facilities. The introduction of clean technologies would require extensive input of such technologies from the developed countries through transfer of technology. The waste minimization concept could thus be introduced through simple waste reduction systems without involving a major change in the process or raw materials. It is felt that the introduction of waste minimization concept in the administrative, technological and legal systems, will lead to better strategies. In conclusion, improper waste management is bring a lots of side-effect, so that , we should take precaution to avoid continuous hurt our Earth.
