The type of construction is IM 7215 (IEC 34-7). Two pedestal bearings assembled to the baseframe carry the rotor, on the turbine side of the rotor is the coupling flange. A closed cooling air circuit through the generator with cooling elements arranged beside or above the active parts is standard, In this case the generators degree of protection provided by the enclosure is IP 54 (IEC 34-5). For sliprings and brushholder-assembly in the case of static excitation the degree of protection differs from that of the main generator. It is IP 23 because of the open ventilated cooling air circuit. 2 Main Design Groups The generator ‘components: consists of the following Base frame Stator core Stator winding Cover Rotor shaft Rotor winding Rotor retaining rings Bearings Field connections, ‘The following additional auxiliaries are required for generator operation: * Ollsystem © Excitation system 3 Cooling System The heat losses arising in the generator interior are dissipated through air. Direct cooling of the rotor essentially eliminates hot spots and differential temperatures between adjacent components which could result in mechanical stresses. Indirect air cooling is used for the stator winding. Design and Cooling System 4 Air Cooling Circuit (see also 4.1-1110) ‘The cooling air for the generator is drawn by axial- flow fans arranged on the rotor via lateral openings in the stator housing. The cooling air flow is divided into three flow paths after each fan: Flow path 1 is directed into the rotor end winding space for cooling the rotor winding. ‘One part of the cooling air flows past the individual colis for cooling the rotor end windings and then leaves the end winding space via bores in the rotor teeth at the ends of the rotor body. ‘The other portion of the cooling air is directed from the rotor end winding space into the slot-bottom ducts, where it is discharged into the air gap vie a large number of radial ventilating slots in the colls and bores in the rotor wedges. Along these paths the heat of the rotor winding is directly transfered to the cooling air, Flow path 2 is directed over the stator end windings to cold air ducts and into the cold air compartments in the stator frame space between the generator housing and the stator core. The air then flows into the air gap through slots in the core where it absorbs the heat from the stator core and stator winding. Flow path 3 is directed into the air gap via the rotor retaining rings. The air then flows past the clamping fingers and via ventilating slots in the stator core into the hot air compartments in the stator frame. This flow path mainly coils the rotor retaining rings, the ends of the rotor body and the ends of the stator core. Flows 2 and 3 mix in the air gap with flow 1 leaving the rotor. The cooling air then flows racially outward through ventilating slots in the core within the range of the hot air compartments for cooling further portions of the stator core and stator winding. The hot air is discharged to the cooling elements via exhaust ducts. In case of special designs (large frame height), rolled-stee! plates of appropriate thickness are welded together to form a box-type structure. To increase stiffness of base frame, fin plates are welded in the whole cross area below the bearings and in the axial area. The seating surfaces accepting the bearings and the exciter machine resp. the brush gear are machined with parallel surfaces and provided with tapped holes and taper-pin holes for securing the above-mentioned machine parts. The cooling of the exciter machine resp. the brush gear is realized by means of tubes and openings in the console. In this way, a connection to the generator cool air compartment is made. For complete transportation, titing bollards are welded on the base frame sides. Tapped holes and anchor bolt holes are intended in the axial and oross beams to enable the generator alignment and anchoring to the foundation. b.3-/-2-/ Grundrahmen/Base Frame seme 1 Standard-1-Profl 1 Standard beam 2 Rippenblech 2 Proplato 3 Gowinde- Baw. The inner stator consists of the core and the stator winding. The stator core is stacked with insulated electrical sheet-steel laminations with a low loss index and is supported in the base frame by means of guide bars and rings. Inner stator and base frame are welded together. ‘Axial compression of the stator core is obtained by clamping fingers and pressure plates. The clamping fingers ensure a uniform clamping pressure, ‘especially within the range of the teeth. After stacking of the stator core the core key bars are installed in the respective slots. The required stifiness is obtained by welding the skeleton frame to the core key bars and pressure plates. The two outer and if required further skeleton frames of the inner stator are thicker. They ensure ‘safe transmission of the mechar forces via welded on lugs to the base frame. Siemens AG Power Generation $.3-/-2 _ 4:1-2430-0001 * o2576 Kapselung/nclosure The enclosure of a machine consists of both internal and externel parts which serve not only fo protect the machine from harmful environmental factors but also to protect the enviroriment from the machine itself, In addition to protection, the enclosure al serves to guide the cooling air within t.. machine and to a large extent also determines its noise characteristics. The internal parts of the enclosure serve to guide the cooling air and also to protect the winding when being transported and during assembly or dismantting. For this reason the respective parts are called winding covers and airguide rings. For their construction Glassreinforced-plastic is used. To simplify maintenance they are sectionalized. The outer enclosure takes the form of a Jacket with rubber-strip insulation between it and: the baseframe in order to reduce transmission of structure-bome noise. For assembly reasons the jacket may also be divided into several parts. Split shaft glands bolted to the baseframe ensuré perfect sealing with the shaft even in the event of movement or vibrations in the Jacket and permit it to be ified off without extensive dismanting work. Removable covers, either bolted-on or hinged, enable a service of the coolers during operation provided the customer's safety regulations allow this. Enélosure Construction for Direct Air-cooled Machines The intemal parts of the enclosure correspond to those of the air-to-water-cooled machines as far as their function and shape ‘are concemed. Openings in the outer enclosure provide for the connection of ventilation ducts. Each stator slot accommodates two bars. The slot bottom bars and top bars are displaced from each other by one winding pitch and connected at their ends to form coll groups. ‘The coll groups are connected together with phase connectors inside the stator frame as shown in the connection diagram. This arrangement and the shape of the bars at the ends result in @ cone-shaped winding having particularly favorable characteristics both in respect of its electrical properties and resistance to magnetically induced forces. The bars afford maximum operating reliability, since each coil consists of only one tum. ‘This makes the fur insulation and the main insulation identical. 2 Conductor Construction ‘The bar consists of a large number of separately insulated strands which are transposed to reduce the skin effect losses. The strands of small rectangular cross-section are provided with a braided glass fiber insulation and arranged side by side over the slot width. The individual layers are insulated from each other by a vertical separator. In the straight slot portion the strands are transposed by 360° (540° in case of large core lengths). The transposition provides for a mutual neutralization of the voltages induced in the individual strands due to the slot crossfield and end winding flux leakage and ensures that minimum circulating currents exist. The current flowing through the conductor is thus uniformly distributed over the entire bar cross-section so that the current-dependent losses are reduced. ‘At the Roebel crossover points, the insulation is forced with insulating strip inserts. To ensure the dimensional stability in the slot portion, the bars are cured in an electrically heated press. Prior to applying the bar insulation, the bar ends are bent with a special device which shapes the involutes over a cone shell. This ensures a uniform ‘spacing of the bars over the entire length of the end ‘urns after installation. Bars for generators with a nominal voltage > 10 KV get a interal potential grading. The order of the intemal potential grading is to constant the electrical field strength in the high voltage insulation, ‘The high voltage insulation consists of the specified number of half overlapped, continuous layers of dry mica tape applied from end to end on the stator bars. A semiconducting tape applied as a final wrapping in the slot section provides for a good electrical contact with the grounded parts via the stator core, Specially treated tapes are applied to the bar portions just outside the slot to provide a corona grading system which ensures uniform control of the electric field without corona discharges. The end turns are provided with an outer cover of highly flexible armoring tape in order to obtain a smooth surface. In the ‘course of manufacture, the bars are subjected to numerous electrical tests for quality control 3. Winding Assembly The pre-insulated and pre-shaped bars are carefully placed into the slots of the stator core. In the end windings, dry glass fabric pads are inserted between the coils as spacers, and the end turns are then lashed fo each other and to the end winding support structure with glass fabric tapes. The insulated bars in the slot section are covered with prefabricated glass fabric pads and locked in plan by inserting slot wedges. The phase connectors are likewise insulated with mica tapes. They ate secured to the support brackets, using spacer blocks and lashings similar to those in the end windings, and then connected to the respective stator bars. The stator bars and all phase ‘connectors are then taped with dry mica tape and with an outer cover of armoring tape as used on the end tums. 4 High Voltage Insulation ‘The high-voltage [Link] provided according to the proven Micalastic system (see 4,1-2320). This high-quality, insulation system is the result of systematic development. Its. reliability is assured by continuous quality control throughout the manufacturing process. ‘The first 10.5 kV winding of a turbogenerator to be impregnated in vacuum with a solventiess synthetic resin and cured was completed in 1958. Since that. time, this insulation system has been used on all direct cooled windings and also on indirect cooled windings of more than 350 turbogenerators with 2 total rating of 150000 MVA. Since 1960, this insulation system has been registered under the trade-mark Micalastic® for Siemens AG. Today, this system can be used for the post- impregnation and curing of a fully wound-stator. 2 impregnation and Curing The stator core with the coils installed in place is pre-dried in a vacuum tank, evacuated and impregnated by being flooded with epoxy resin. After this extensive impregnation cycle involving the application of pressure, the surplus impregnating resin is drained. The complete stator is then placed in an oven for curing. All mica tapes and parts to be impregnated for achieving an improved mechanical strength include an accelerator to speed up the curing process. The impregnating resin itself contains no accelerator and can thus drain off from the non- insulated surfaces of the core as heat is applied so that all cooling passages remain free from resin, The application of appropriate monitoring methods ensures adherence to the specified conditions and limits during evacuation, heating, impregnation and ‘curing of the fully wound stator. AS a final treatment, a varnish coating is applied to the stator winding. 3 Tests During bar manufacture, the standard strand tests according to IEC/VDE specifications are performed. Only bars without short-circuits between strands are released for further processing. After installation of the taped bars in the core stots, dc-tests are carried out in order to promptly identify and eliminate any defects and weak points produced in the winding during installation without causing damage to other parts of the insulation, After impregnation and curing of the winding a dissipation factor vs. voltage measurement as standard specifications is performed for each bar between all individual phase windings and to ground. Guiding values for the dissipation factor and its rise with the voltage are merely given in the KEMA specifications. According to these specifiations, the maximum value shall not exceed 0.04 at 20% of rated voltage, and the rise shall not be greater than 0.006 per 20'% of rated voltage up to 60 % of rated voltage and 0.008 per 20% of rated voltage up to ated voltage. Windings manufactured by the Micalestic® post-impregnation process comply with these limits. The higher rise of the dissipation factor as compared to the limit values established for individual conductor insulations using a guard electrode arrangement results from the loss attributable to the voltage grading material applied at the slot ends. final dielectric strength test performed at 105 % of the winding test voltage (Up = 2-Uy + 1 KV) serves, to verify proper impregnation and the electrical quality of the insulation before the stator is installed in the base frame. 4 Properties of Micalastic® The Micalastic® postimpregnation process ‘ensures a mechanically firm bond between all winding components and between the winding and the stator which is capable of withstanding the various temperature rises occurring during operation. The Micalastic® system thus provides for reliable insulation of the windings at all machine voltages. The insulation is applied continuously from end to end on, the stator bars providing effective protection against overvoliages arising during normal operation and against the high stresses that may occur at the slot ends when high test voltages are applied. Micalastic® has @ long electrical life as determined on hundreds of experimental bars and verified on numerous fullsize bars. Micalastic® is a good conductor of heat by reason of its high mica content and the voidfree. synthetic resin, Efficient heat transfer is particulary important for dissipation of the copper losses in machines that require thick insulation because of the high voltages and are not designed with direct cooled windings. Micalastic® features a high thermal stability. The resin-impregnated and cured insulation permits the machine to be operated continuously under conditions ‘corresponding to those for Class F insulation. Micalastic® insulation shows only a small ation factor tip-up with increasing temperature, Siemens AG Energieercougung KWU B3-1-8-/ 7 , 44-2320-0010/1 sa97e i Turbogenerator Description Micalastic® High Voltage Insulation Post-Impregnated Stator Windings which is also affected by the loss attributable to the voltage grading material applied at the slot ends, Micalastic® features an elastic reponse to thermomechanical stresses. Alternate heating and cooling with large differences in temperature are endured without detimental effects on quality. The Micalastic® insulation remains firmly bonded to the copper conductors and the stator. This is confirmed by dissipation factor measured with rising voltage within the operating temperature range. Micalastic? owes its insensitivity to high temperatures and temperature changes to the cured synthetic resin. This favorable performance under thermal stress’ is particularly “advantageous for machines subject to frequent load changes, eg. ~enerators driven by gas turbines or peak-load GONm nach deo Anbau abgedichtet mit Silikon sealed with Silicon after assembly 3 he 320 3 t | Tet ra XX ! ih b4ay a | 1 Wit Pos.1 hau c 1 Ua le ‘os. gi Mt i 2 1 nyt 21 bn 4 1 WARS SB 1 tL 1 rhe pls | Bi) TL ct | i y 4 | [ " y iy | 1 aa ht | ibe zl r+d| 1 7 if 7 1 in t Regensinns }——B i citer es55 Ht irDooe |! us 45!!N soor900-tiirsDode al i Sf 1 SETS Gcra-2 ag Regenabisut 1 77 1 Temperaturfiihler = “3 fan dean ! 8 Stck, Filter LUWA Temperat ‘ 8 Stek Filter LUWA | seme” || area sii 1 FP 85-592/592 XQ. 1 Tur gesftnet | Boor open | ree | 1 \ al i a i ty "Ih i L ile ‘ird protection grate Wetterschutzgitter weather proieciion grate oo, | 4 Pos. 3 1700/3870 rain drain Tir gestfoet Boor open vf eee 7 I i Hd ' : | | i I i 3500/7200 ' 1 Stee] Fitter 64592490 | i ' Hi | Tie. Its. rotor is overhung mounted on the shaft end of the main machine. The stator is fixed to the base frame of the main machine. A permanent-magnet three-phase pilot exciter driven directly by the common shafting or a static auxiliary excitation unit described separately is used for exciting the field of the extemalpole via a voltage regulator. The three-phase currant flowing in the rotor winding is rectified by silicon diodes in the rotating rectifier and fed into the field winding of the main machine through the exctation tine ‘extending through the hollow shaft of the main machine. ‘The rotor is shrunk onto the shaft extension of the main machine. The rotor hub carries the laminated core. The diodes are mounted according to the machine design either directly in the rotor or in a separate rotating rectifier. The three-phase rotor winding inserted into the slots of the laminated core is connected in ster. It is a twoJayer winding of insulated copper wire with multiple parallel conductors. The free ends of the individual windings are arranged at EE and connected to the U, V, W and neutral bus rings arranged on the same. side. The ‘winding overhangs are provided with bandings to afford protection against centrifugal forces. ‘The rotor windings are vacuum impregnated with epoxy resin, The brushless exciter is of the closed-circuit cooled type. The rotor core permits the passage of cooling air past the rectifier heat sinks. The ducts are so designed so as to communicate via gaskets with the air passages in the baseframe supporting the main machine, thus integrating the cooling circuit of the brushless exciter with that of the main machine. The rectifier is designed as a 6-pulse bridge irouit. The diodes are fitted onto light metal heat sinks with cooling ribs by means of clamping caps. The mounting position of the diodes is depending on the polarity. As the heat sinks are live they are fitted in the supporting ring using insulated elements. The connection between the heat sink and the main rotor is established via connecting angles. 63-8-/-/ The rectifier bridge is protected against high energy over-voltages as may occur in the event of faults by surge diverters situated For inductive measurement of the main excitation current ly a measuring coll is fitted fon the stator yoke ring between the two poles (in the pole gap). This coil provides a single- hase AC voltage proportional to the 3-phaso rotor AC current and thus to the main excitation current. This voltage is indicated via a balanced moving coil instrument with builtin rectifier. The instrument terminals are situated in the terminal box of the brushless exciter. ‘The reading of the instrument associated with the inductive excitation current measurement is influenced by the temperature of the field winding of the main machine. The measuring device must therefore be adjusted by the voltage divider with the field winding at operating temperature, with the aid of the main machine characteristic curves (no-load ‘operation or short-circuit). If necessary, a resistor Ry must be connected in series with the measuring device. Defective diodes can be located by means of a DC continuity tester. It should be noted, however, that owing to the low measuring voltage depending on the measuring renge selected, measurements carried out with instruments of this type may provide greaty iffering results, particularly in the forward direction. The results can therefore only be used for comparing the orders of magnitude of resistance in the blocking and forward direction. For measuring the resistance in the forward direction, the measuring range should be as small as possible. With healthy diodes and with a measuring voltage of 1.5 V, the resistance in the forward direction may be about 1002 to 10k, dopending on the measuring range and a few 100 kQ in the reverse direction. Diodes can be {ested faults after the leads of all the diodes have been disconnected. Diode bridges are likely to give rise to two kinds of faults as follows: * Loss of Blocking Capability (Diode Failure) ln the event of diode failure, the current in the field winding of the generatr is reduced to a very small value _so that the loaded machine falls out of step. To clear the fault, the machine ‘must therefors immediately be de-excited and shut down, The resistance of faulty diodes is reduced to extremely low values in either direction, Erregermaschine/Brushless Exciter Machine Loss of Conductivity in the Forward Direction (Interruption) Loss of diode conductivity occurs considerably less often than diode breakdown and is indicated by a reduction of the voltage delivered by the bridge of approx. 15%. ‘Thanks to the excitation reserve, the auxiliary excitation unit is able to fully compensate this loss of excitation voltage even though the machine requires a higher auxiliary excitation current at rated output and nominal power factor. Diodes which have become blocked in the forward direction habe extremely high resistance values, Ne a wm FA, F2 Terminals field winding Hie Excitation current indicator coil vt, v2 Brushelifting device 1y3, I¥4 Ground fault indicator RC ‘Overvoltage protection b.3-$-f-2 Generator Laufererdschluschutz/Earth leakage protection ‘The brushless exciter Is provided with a pair of siiprings required for earth leakage protections of the whole equipment. These siiprings are shrinicfitled to an insulating sleeve on the extension shaft fitted to the end of the exciter sheft. Each sipring is connected by a cable run through the central bore of the extension shaft to the positive and negative d. c. bus rings. ‘The brush operating gear consists of a rotatable magnet fitted in the EE endshield of the exciter frame and having a brush spindle fixed to one end of its armature via a coupling piece. The brush spindle has an insulated section carrying the brush holders with the measuring brushes. The brushes are not in permanent contact with the sliprings. They are applied only as long as the magnet is on, and are retumed to their rest position when the magnet is de-energized. The retracted and applied positions of the brush holders are defined by a cam located in a hole. The measuring brushes, the exciting winding of the rotatable magnet and, in parallel thereto, a freewheeling diode for arc quenching when the magnet is being de-eriergized are connected to a terminal block accessible through a laterial opening in the EE endshield of the frame. The voltage measuring system enables measurement of the excitation voltage of the main machine while the equipment is in operation, Itis recommended to actuate the brush operating gear once per shift for max. 15 seconds. 6.3~§-2 Brush lifting device
