The cold war began shortly after World War II.

The cold war was a conflict between the communist nations led by the Soviet Union and the democratic nations led by the United States. There hasnt been any proven date on when this war started, but it is believed to have begun around the time of 1947 when President Truman of the United States declared an anti-communist policy. A few believe the War ended when the United States and the Soviet Union improved relations during the 1960s and early 1970s or it may have ended when the Berlin Wall was torn down in 1989. The opening development was the swift collapse of the war time alliance against Adolf Hitler. The Soviet Union wanted to spread communism throughout the world. Therefore the Cold War became a story of Western resistance against communist expansion. Revisionists blame the United States for the Cold War. They argue that the United States wanted to impose its own domination of the world. The Berlin Blockade June 1948-May 1949 was one of the first major international crises of the Cold War and the first crisis that resulted in casualties. The Korean War 1950-53 was a military conflict between the Republic of Korea, and supported by the United Nations. This was the first significant armed conflict of the Cold War. The Vietnam War also known as the American War was a Cold War military conflict that occurred in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia from November 1955 to April 1975 when Saigon fell. The United States entered the war to prevent a communist takeover of South Vietnam. The Cuban Missile Crisis was a confrontation between the Soviet Union, Cuba and the United States in October 1962, during the Cold War. Cuban and Soviet governments began to build missile bases in Cuba for a number of medium to intermediate range for nuclear missiles with the ability to strike most of the United States. After World War II had the first nuclear weapon used in battle, this caused the nuclear arms race during the Cold War. The Soviet Union, Cuba and other countries scrambled to create

their own nuclear weapons. In a race to win weapons superiority countries used up more and more of their resources as they built tens of thousands of nuclear weapons. This caused a term to be illustrated; called MAD, or mutually assured destruction. This would deter the superpowers from using the weapons against each other. In 1965 the Second Vatican Council condemned the use of weapons of mass destruction. Catholics began to question the government using the atomic bomb in the past or possibly using them in the future. I think that nuclear weapons should not be used in combat because civilians are the victims. I hope that Countries can learn from the past and see that developing nuclear weapons is not in the worlds best interest.
