S: SPECIFIC/SIMPLE/STATED IN THE POSITIVE
• Specific goals tend to get
accomplished
• Answer the "who, what, when,
where" questions
• Use a mind map (mindomo.com)
or sheet of paper
• Write what you want, not what
you want to avoid
M: MEASURABLE/MEANINGFUL

• How will I know when it's


accomplished?
• How much? How many? By
when?
• Meaningful: Why am I doing this?
What am I truly hoping to gain?
A: ACHIEVABLE/"ACT AS IF"

• Is this goal achievable?


• What are the steps?
• Act as if: How would I be different?
How would I think different?
• Compare your current situation with
the perspective of your future self
R: REALISTIC/RESPONSIBLE

• Must be able and willing to work
