Song Form Assignment
Due: second week of October 7- 11 2024.
You will do the following:
A. Select a song that you like in any style.
B. Create a title page slide - Write the song title at the top of the
page (or slide) and the artist underneath. ie.
See You Again

C. You will analyze the form or structure of the song using
terms we discussed in class including the following for Pop
music: Intro, verse, chorus, bridge, outro, hook and pre-
chorus. You will assign each part a letter – for example, verse
may be A, chorus may be B, bridge may be C, so that the
form of your song may be as follows: A B A B C B. If you
select an instrumental the form may be as follows: A B A, or
A B A B and so forth. Make sure to indicate that A = verse
B= chorus and C= Bridge or alternatively A = chorus B=
verse and C= chorus if the chorus comes first at the
beginning of the song
You will write the form of the whole song on your slide.
D. Select a passage from the song (for example maybe the
chorus or verse or bridge). You may write out the lyrics from
your favourite verse or chorus creatively on a slide.
E. You may create a picture (or select images online either of
the artist or band or a picture that reminds you of the theme
of the song) and describe the theme (or message) of the song
in a slide.
F. Present your song to the class. We will listen to a passage of
the song and you will be asked to describe the form of the
song and respond to the following questions:
(i) Who wrote the song and performed the song - are
there several songwriters/producers (look it up
online)?
(ii) What mood is created by the lyrics in the song?
(iii) Describe the form of the song (ie. ABABCB).
(iv) Why did you select the particular chorus or verse
you chose to share with the class? (ie. Do you like
the rhythm, rhyme or the theme of those lyrics? Or
does it remind you of a special time or person in
your life?)
(v) Why did you choose this song?
***During your presentation you will do the following:
(vi) You will show the class a YouTube clip of your
selected song.
(vii) You will present your song using a slideshow, which
includes the lyrics (a chorus or verse or the bridge),
an image, form of the song, mood, theme (or
message in the song) and the reason why you chose
it.
(viii) You will answer the questions listed above.
***Note: please make sure to select a song with no inappropriate language
or other inappropriate references.
