Wiki is a web application that allows collaborative editing of its content and structure by its users. Wiki is
different from a blog since wiki allows users to add, edit or delete content that is posted on the Website
while blog does not allow others to modify the original material posted.
The term wiki comes from the word wikiwiki which means "quick" in Hawaiian. The first wiki was created
by Ward Cunningham in 1995.
The most popular wiki is the Wikipedia. It is a free, open content online encyclopedia where registered users
can publish an article and anybody can edit it.
Uses of Wikis
• promote collaboration among individuals
• use as online presentation tool
• use as online presentation tool
• create a to-do list
• post announcements, meetings, agenda or discussion
• organize projects, from planning to implementation
• plan an event
• share materials like document and others
Creating a Wiki
Wikispaces is one of the best wiki platform where you can create your wiki for free. Wikispaces is a social
writing platform for education. Wikispaces Classroom is free for teachers and students and it is only for use
in education.
Do the following to create your own wiki:
1. Create a Wikispaces account. Select the type of wiki to create (Education or Everyone Else).
2. Click I want one! button.
3. Fill out the Join Now form.
4. Click Join.
5. Click Create Wiki.
6. Fill out the Make a New Wiki form.
7. Click Create.
Your wiki is finally done and needs a little makeover. To edit the home page, do the following:
1. Click the down arrow ▼. A drop-down menu will appear.
2. Select Edit. The work area will appear.
3. Edit and play around like you are in a word processing environment.
4. Click Save.
