GUIDELINES FOR PRE-COMMISIONING INSPECTION OF TRANSMISSION LINE TOWERS

1) 2) 3) 4) All the towers shall be physically inspected by the inspection team. All photographs should indicate the Tower Location No. & Date of the inspection. Any deviation from the check list should be as a photograph and mentioned in the check list. Physical Inspection of the tower from all four sides standing at a distance about 60m away from the tower should be done. y Check for straightness of legs (they should form a single straight line from bottom cross arm to tower stub and from peak to bottom cross arm. Any deviation in straight line slope will call for checking for fittings of joints and fabrication procedures. y In case of abnormality, request the concessionaire to get the concerned parts checked by the available fitters. y Check for alignment (Straight line) & patterns of vertical bracings & belts (with special attention to belts at bottom cross arm level , basic body level and body extensions of +9M, +18M & +25M. y Check for the three cross arms for horizontal alignment at their bottom level from front and rear sides of transverse faces , duly giving more emphasis to main gussets connecting with the legs. y Alignment and orientation of peaks. Standing under the tower , check the stub connections, main lattice connections in both transverse and longitudinal directions, hip bracing patterns and members as per the tower outline drawings. Angle Towers (B, C & D), heavy body extension towers (+9/+18/+25M), Railway Line crossings, Highway crossings, existing EHT line crossings (132kV,220kV,400kV,765kV under crossings ) shall be given more emphasis and thoroughly checked for alignment and all critical aspects. Upper part of the Tower which is not visible by naked eye should be observed with the help of Binoculars Any abnormalities, non-completion of main tower erection works & stringing work, improper installation of insulators shall be recorded by taking photographs duly indicating the tower location number and date of inspection. The photographs should be taken including tower no., location no. and date. In case the tower location is not approachable for physical inspection due to ROW problem, the same shall be recorded in the comment sheet and photograph should be taken from a distance duly indicating the location no of tower and date and signed by concessionaire. All the inspection reports are to be signed by the representatives of IE, concessionaire, and authority duly indicating location number and date. Any tree cutting is required or not, if yes, between which towers. Insulator properly strung with upper\lower ring or not. Pilot insulator whether provided based on drawings or not. Accessories to be carried by each team:1. Camera. 2. Structural outline drawings. 3. Tower checking pro forma. 4. Binoculars. 5. Brown pad, binder clips, marking pens and A4 sheets.
