In this study, the researchers tried to investigate on the relationship of social networking and perception on self-esteem among first year BS Nursing students. From the derived results, a guideline on self-esteem enhancement was developed to help, especially students, in knowing the effects of their Facebook use which is undeniably very popular nowadays. The study revolved around two major variables. First was the identification of the purpose in using Facebook in terms of Intrapersonal and Interpersonal intents. Second was the identification of extent of perception on self-esteem. This was identified in terms of attention or recognition, confidence or self-respect, accomplishment or achievement, respect by others, and lastly, respect of others. With the results gathered, the researchers tried to relate the two variables to find out if concrete and describable relationships really do exist. And finally as mentioned earlier, a guideline was developed after the assessment process between the said variables. The researchers utilized the descriptive type of research with self-made instrument based on the Rosenbergs Self-Esteem Scale. The said instrument was validated by three academicians. To find the relationship of the two variables, the researchers applied the computation of individual weighted means and over-all weighted means. With the obtained values, the Pearsons r moment correlation formula was used to determine the correlation and proportionality of the variables. To further describe the significant relationship of the variables, the T-test formula using the (r) value was computed.

Statistical treatments applied led to the results which answered the problems presented in the study. Pearsons r showed a very high positive correlation between the two variables. T-test using the r value, with the level of significance at 0.05, led to the rejection of the null hypothesis. The statistics was summarized as there is a significant relationship between social networking, as Facebook use, and perception on self-esteem. The results revealed that they are very highly correlated in a positive trend.
