9th Physics Brain Tournament (PBT) Guidelines and Mechanics High School Category (Open Category)

The Physics Brain Tournament is a battle for high school and college physics enthusiasts. This is organized by the Kapisanan ng mga Mag-aaral sa Pisika (KMP) which is the official BS Physics Students' Society of Mindanao State University Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT). QUALIFICATIONS 1. High school students are qualified to join. 2. Each team must be composed of three (3) students and one (1) coach who are all representing the same school. A coach may supervise more than one team but the Registration Fee will still be the same for each team. 3. A participating school may send a maximum of five (5) teams. 4. REGISTRATION A registration fee of Php 500.00 is to be collected from each team until March 3, 2012. Participants are required to present their valid identification cards (IDs) upon registration. DATE AND VENUE The tournament will be on March 3, 2012 at the Lecture Hall-A, College of Science and Mathematics Annex Building. Registration will start at 7:30 AM outside the Lecture Hall-A. There will be an opening program which will start a little later after the registration period. The general guidelines will be announced right after the opening program. GENERAL RULES 1. The tournament will consist of three (3) parts. The Elimination Round will be given to all teams and will consist further of Easy, Average, and Difficult Rounds. The Wave Round will be given to the eight (8) high scorer teams and will be composed of three (3) waves. The Championship Round or the Face-to-Face Round will be for the final two (2) competing teams. 2. Participants should be in the venue fifteen (15) minutes before the contest proper starts. 3. None of the teams shall be allowed to do his/her necessities during the contest proper. These should be done only before the start of each tournament round. 4. Coaches and participants are allowed to raise their concerns. Questions and protests must be raised before the next question is delivered; otherwise, they will not be welcomed. Protests are appealed to the Board of Judges. 5. Strictly no cellular phones allowed. Participants will only be allowed to bring pens. Scratch papers, pieces of chalk, boards, and erasers will be provided during the contest proper. 6. Participants are allowed to use their calculators. 7. The Board of Judges shall be the sole arbiter for questions and issues raised and their decision will be deemed final and irrevocable. ELIMINATION ROUND 1. There will be three (3) parts: Easy, Average, and Difficult. A 5-minute break shall be given between the Average and Difficult Rounds. 2. 3. Strictly no cellular phones allowed. Participants will only be allowed to bring pens. Scratch papers, pieces of chalk, boards, and erasers will be provided during the contest proper. 4. The answers must be clearly written in chalk on a chalkboard which must be raised when the allotted time ends. 5. Questions without choices must be answered with the correct spelling of the word. Questions asking for a person's name shall at least be answered with the appropriate first and last names. Providing the appropriate units, along the numerical answers, is necessary unless the required unit is already stated in the question. 6. The time that will be allotted to answer a question shall start right after the quiz master has read the question twice and has signaled GO! When the allotted time has elapsed, the timekeeper will then ring the bell. 7. The scores of the teams for each round will be summed up to comprise the team's total score. 8. If there is a tie after the Difficult Round, the teams concerned must proceed to the Clincher Round. This round shall consist of three (3) questions that must be answered each within one minute and 30 seconds (1 minutes). Each correct answer will garner one (1) point. There is no deduction for every wrong or void answer. When the third question has been answered and there is still a tie among the teams, questions shall continually be delivered until their scores will vary with each other. 9. Questions and protests must be raised by the coach and/or the participants before the next question is delivered; otherwise they will not be welcomed. Protests are appealed to the Board of Judges. 10. The Board of Judges shall be the sole arbiter for questions and issues raised and their decision will be deemed final and irrevocable. WAVE ROUND 1. The eight (8) high scorer teams in the Elimination Round shall qualify to the Wave Round which will be held at the same venue at 2:00 PM in the afternoon. 2. This will consist further of three (3) waves. After the first, second, and third waves, three (3), two (2), and one (1) team shall be eliminated respectively. 3. AWARDS and PRIZES 1. Each participant in the Elimination Round shall be given a Certificate of Participation. 2. The qualifying teams in the Wave Round and in the Championship Round shall be awarded with corresponding certificates, medals, and cash prizes, and trophies. The Champion and the First Runner-Up team shall receive Php 3,000.00 and Php 2,000.00 respectively. Each of the six (6) participants in the Championship Round shall receive a free limited edition PBT Tee-shirt.
