Student Digraph Sort
{for independent or partner practice}
How to use: Simply laminate and cut. Students will match the cards under the
correct digraph. On pages 11-13 there are the digraph header cards for you to
choose from depending on the level of ink you want to use. These will be placed
at the top of your digraph tree map.

Tips: It is best to do this center in a place with a lot of surface

area since there quite a few cards to chose from. Or you can always remove
some of the cards as well. Some suggestions are in a pocket chart, on the floor,
or at a large table. Another fun suggestion is to place Velcro on the back and
make a large poster on the side of a file cabinet, your white board, etc. for the
student’s to arrange them on.

Digraph Tree Map Headers

These cards are be used as headers for the tree map during a whole
group lesson as well as for the student independent practice. They can
be interchanged for both big teacher digraph picture cards as well as the
smaller student digraph picture cards.

There are 3 options to print the header cards in full color, partial color,
or black and white.

Along with the digraph headers cards, are the title cards for the actual
tree map. You can choose to use either title. Or free free to write your
own title on your white board.

Teacher Digraph Sort
{for a whole group lesson}
How to use: Simply laminate and cut. Make a tree map on your white board.
The teacher (and students) will match the cards under the correct digraph.
Use the digraph header cards on the previous pages and place them at the top
of your digraph tree map. After a word is placed on the tree map, I like to write
underneath the picture the word and underline just the digraph. For example:
under the picture of a chair I would write chair.

Tips: It is best to do this activity whole group on your teacher white board. You
can place magnets on the back of each card or have tape ready to go and stick
them under the correct digraph on the tree map. You can choose to write
“h brothers” or “digraphs” at the top of your tree map or use one of the strips
provided on the previous pages.
Student Assessment Sticks
How to assemble: Use either the colored page or black and white.
Laminate, print, and tape the cards to a popsicle stick.

How to use: Give your students a set of digraph assessment sticks.

Students will hold up the correct digraph stick that goes with the card
that the teacher will reveal. Use the big teacher digraph cards for this
assessment.

Digraph Posters
How to use: Print and laminate. Use as a reference for your students
so make sure to post them somewhere in the classroom that they can
refer back to. I like to laminate them so when I go over the digraphs I
can underline the digraph with a dry erase marker directly on the
poster.
