GAMES DESIGNED FOR VERBAL 1.

Hollywood- played with blanks for letters in a word, this game can be played to guess the words and their synonyms 2. Another game which is effective and better than the Hollywood game is the Treasure Hunt game. Ground Rules: Make chits from 1-20 (say) if there are 20 words. So from the lot if a person picks up a chit give them the word which is marked against that number. The person is now given a clue and made to ask 3 questions to the other group of 20 who have the answers. If he gets the answer within the 3 questions then hes the winner. Like this we choose all the winners and give them simple verbal analogies (This is like the second round). The persons getting the right answer would be given a chit containing the roman number of the answer. In that chit is a small handout containing 5 sentence correction questions. Whoever gets more than 3 answers answer in the quickest time is asked to search for the prize in the vicinity of where its being kept. The winner obviously beats the losers to the prize. 3. Aim of the Game: To improve the usage skills and to understand the meaning of the word better. Rules: Each person of the game (the number of people is decided based on the time left but the minimum number is 8) is given a word. They are given sufficient time to prepare a story for 5 minutes. The most important part is that the story should contain at least 4 of the given 8 words and should contain all of the participants having roles in it. Try the same on different groups in the class. Select one from all the groups and select the best performer in the group (This may be left to the audience). 4. Name of the Game: Chinese whisper Aim of the game: This is the game preceding the introduction to Reading Comprehension Ground Rules: We design a long sentence and whisper it into the ear of one student. The whisper passes from one student and reaches the last student in the class, person by person. The last person gets to write the sentence that has come to him/her through whispers. We tell the students that the original sentence was replaced by the familiar words and this is the nature of the mind. We get on with understanding the importance of understanding the tone of a sentence or of any passage. 5. Dialog speaking :

Pick 10 volunteers to demonstrate 5 tones from and RC Passage and the effect it would have on the listener. The same way the tone should have a similar effect on the reader. (Then the passages with different tones begin)
