Summer Internships
I thank Alderman Fioretti for posting the following information on Facebook. Student Summer Jobs from the CSBI The Chicago Summer Business Institute (CSBI) provides a six-week paid internship program for high school sophomores and juniors each summer. These internships take place at various banks, accounting, law and engineering firms throughout the Loop and business districts. In conjunction with a 28-hour work week, students attend half-day classroom seminars and workshops every week where they learn about the financial markets, attend seminars given by successful business executives, and participate in team building programs. To be eligible, applicants must: - Be a current Sophmore of Junior in high school; - Have a valid social security card; - Have a 3.0 GPA or higher (on a 4.0 scale); - Must attend a public, parochial or private high school; - Must be a resident of the City of Chicago; and - Must have an annual family income of $60,000 a year or less and a parent/guardian must sign a Certificate of Income Verification Form. Chicago Seeks Input on Cultural Plan


The following information is from the Chicago Tribune February 7, 2012 The City of Chicago is developing its first cultural plan since Mayor Harold Washington was in office. Four meetings are already scheduled for Feb. 15 at Columbia College from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Feb. 16 at Nicholas Senn High School from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Feb. 18 at the DuSable Museum from 10 a.m. to noon and Feb. 21 at the National Museum of Mexican Art from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The city has also created a Web site to collect citizen input: chicagoculturalplan2012.com

CPS Seeks Candidates for LSC's


I thank Alderman Fioretti for posting the following announcement on Facebook. All parents and community members who want to strengthen their local schools and have a positive impact on student achievement are encouraged to run for their Local School Council (LSC). No experience or formal education is required. LSC Elections are conducted every two years. The 2012 elections will take place at all elementary schools from 6 a.m. 7 p.m. on April 18. LSC elections take place at all high schools from 6 a.m. 7 p.m. on April 19.
