DISASTERS
Natural disasters are huge, strong events caused by nature. They can
break things like houses and lands, and can be harmful to people and
animals. Let's learn more about some famous natural disasters.
Imagine a mountain that suddenly explodes! This is called a
volcano eruption. It can send hot rocks, ash, and lava
shooting into the sky.

A tornado is like a giant spinning top in the sky. It's

made of wind that spins really fast. Tornadoes can pick
up houses and cars and toss them around like toys.

Sometimes the ground shakes suddenly, making everything

wobble. This is an earthquake! It happens when pieces of
the Earth's crust move.

Drought is like when someone forgets to turn on the tap, and

no water comes out. It's when there's not enough rain for a
long time. Drought makes it hard for plants and animals to find
water, and crops to grow..

Imagine if your whole neighborhood turned into a big

swimming pool! That's a flood. It happens when lots of
rain falls quickly or when a river overflows. Floods can
wash away homes and make it hard to go outside.

A tsunami is a huge wave in the ocean caused by an earthquake

or a volcano. It can travel very fast and be as tall as a
skyscraper. When it reaches land, it can flood everything in its
path.
A wildfire is like a big, scary campfire that gets out of control.
It spreads quickly through forests, burning everything in its
path. Wildfires can be started by lightning or by people.

A hurricane is a big storm with strong winds and lots of rain. It

forms over warm ocean water and moves toward land. Hurricanes
can knock down trees, blow away roofs, and cause flooding.
