1. (a) Prove that  an empty set is a subset of any set.


(b) Prove that  the empty set is unique.
(c) Prove that  a set is a subset of itself.

2. (a) Prove that if A⊆B and A ⊆B , then A = B.
(b) Let A, B be sets. Prove that A ∩ (B − A) = ∅.
(c) Prove that if A⊆C andB ⊆ C, then A ∪ B ⊆ C.

3. (a) Let A be the subset of a universal set U. Prove that

i. A ∪ (U \A) = U .
ii. A ∩ (U \A) = ∅.
iii. U \(U \A) = A.
(b) Prove that if U =A∪B and A ∩ B = ∅, then A = U \B .

4. (a) Prove that for any sets A, B, C ,

(b) Suppose A×B is non-empty. Prove that A×B = C×D ⇒ A = C
and B = D.

5. (a) Prove that If ℘(A) = ℘(B), then A = B.


(b) Prove that x∈

(c) Given U is a universal set, prove the identity law A ∩ U = A.

6. Prove the following theorems:

(a) A ⊆ B ⇔ ℘(A) ⊆ ℘(B).
