Current Working of Training and Development Department

Coverage: 1) Job specific 2) Technical 3) Behavioral 4) Quality Management Systems 5) Information Technology Main Job is to identify the training needs of each employee including supervisor level and co-ordinate to get the trainings imparted to such individuals on monthly basis on the various training modules. The data of complete Training and development is maintained like for .eg getting Happy Sheets and LTE filled, updating the data base in TMS. The role is largely that of a coordinating department. Scope of improvement in the following area: 1) Training is imparted but effectiveness is not gauged. 2) Right training to the right person is not imparted 3) Training modules not in sync with MSSL culture.

Planned Intervention
The role of TND in the coming times would no longer be a coordinating department it would focus more on employee development. It would be imparting only that training which would be customized and need based and also which would focus on the development of the employee for succession planning and career growth. Preferred working. The function of TND department shall now be divided into two functions 1) Technical 2) Behavioral Technical training school shall take care of Technical /QMS training and soft skills training school which shall cater to behavioral along with Quality Circles /safety/IT related trainings. Job specific trainings shall be taken care by the department themselves. Job specific- Department oriented- Identification and imparting of the both to be taken care by the individual department. Each department will identify internal trainers for the various job related trainings .The unit level job specific training shall be taken care by the respective unit. The unit /department shall identify the trainings which would help the employees to fill in the gaps to do a

certain role. This would be done at the time of up gradation i.e. from associate level to supervisory level and for other up gradations also The Data base management and coordination shall be done by the department/SBU using the common portal* to be designed in the due course . The Short term and long term effectiveness of the training will be gauged by the Department/SBU themselves.

Soft skills training school would offer: The training under the soft skills forte shall cater to behavioral training needs of individuals considering the requirements of the organization for its cultural improvement and creation of a healthy work environment. The programs under behavioral training shall be divided among 3 or 4 modules wherein each module shall have 3 4 trainings covering a particular cadre of people and catalyzing a set of traits on which that module shall focus on. The training programs shall be designed on the basis of a standard expected culture fixed by the management. Such training needs shall be identified through analysis of ESS (gap identified between the expected organizational culture and existing culture enumerated by ESS) and the observations of the team leader or process / divisional head. Also, the Soft Skills Training School shall take care of the behavioral traits identified to be developed as a part of career or succession planning of the employees. Such trainings shall be planned for people identified as people with potential for growth by their immediate supervisors / reporting officers.

Cultural Development: To have an environment which would catalyze our efforts to facilitate FTF and to make a better organization. Induction Training: Induction training would be taken by Central HR.

Common portal:
The common portal would be accessible to certain key persons identified by the Department head. The portal will have features to access Behavior Training /Technical Training/QMS/Job specific training/other trainings The data base management would be managed by the department themselves. Up gradation of the portal any time during the working would be the individual department s responsibility. The features required in the portal can be decided centrally by a team.
