Sibani – *teaching about fundamental rights*
Anvi- when suddenly a student said-
Tanay - Ughhhh this is soon boring
Aryav – yes, I agree what’s the point of this
Sibani- *sighs*well then let’s discuss about smth more
interesting the chhota Nagpur plateau. Do any of u know
anything abt it??
Diya-ME! ME! I know!!
Sibani- go ahead Diya ….
Diya – Ummm I frgt…
Sharav-ME! Ik that it was a rebel by tribes to the britishers!!
Sibani-good job Sharav!
Sharav-Ik that there were 3 rebellions under the chhota Nagpur
plateau revolt-the kol rebellion the santhal rebellion and the
munda revolt.
Sibani-OK good. Anyone else?
Aryav- Ik abt the kol rebellion. The kols were angry at the
british because of the exploitative policies they used. the main
leaders of the revolt were Bhudu Bhaghat , Joa Bhaghat and
Jhindrai Manki
Diya-And ik abt the santhal rebellion. It was by a tribe that
occupied present day Jharkhand. Because of the britishers their
lives became very hard and they had face starvation just to pay
taxes. IN 1855 , the Santhals rose to a major rebellion which
helped them reclaim their territories back from the British.
Though the revolt failed , the British launched an act for the
welfare of the Santhals .
Tanay-Can I speak about the Munda revolt ?
Sibani- Go ahead Tanay..
Tanay- well the british took land away from the tribals and they
revolted against them . after this the government passed an
act stating that the tribes who had revolted against the british
were criminals .
Sharav- The birsa munda revolt was because of the laws the
britishers had passed . The people of the munda tribe and birsa
waged a series of wars on the british by launching surprise
attacks on them.
Sibani- Wow! you all know so much about history, just like you
should about civics . Lets get back to the fundamental rights of
a citizen.
*Starts acting like she’s teaching*
Anvi-In brief, The tribal revolts of the chhota Nagpur plateau
were against the british due to their exploitative policies. The
kol rebellion was done by the people of kol against the EIC , but
the revolt was suppressed by the british.
The santhal rebellion was by the people of present day
Jharkhand against the tax policies of the british. It was led by
four brothers-Kanhu,Siddhu,Chand and Bhairav.
The munda revolts were by people who wanted to restore their
rights as landowners. The british government passed a law ini
1865 stating any forest to be their land. This just angered the
people more.
Birsa and other members of the munda tribe revolted against
the british using the guerilla warfare method to reclaim their
land. Birsa was finally arrested in 1900 but the other members
of the tribe continued to revolt against the british.
