Assignment: Measure the force of tendon achilles while
standing
Achilles Tendon:
The Achilles tendon is the thick, strong band of tissue that connects the
calf muscles (gastrocnemius and soleus) to the heel bone (calcaneus). It is
the largest and one of the most powerful tendons in the body, allowing for
movement in the foot and ankle.
1. Function of the Achilles Tendon While
Standing:
While standing, the Achilles tendon helps to maintain an
upright posture by transmitting the force generated by the
calf muscles to the foot. This helps the body remain
balanced, with the tendon supporting the weight of the body
by stabilizing the foot and ankle joint.
2. Isometric Contraction of the Achilles
Tendon While Standing:
When standing, the Achilles tendon undergoes isometric
contraction, meaning it is under tension but does not change
its length. This tension helps to stabilize the ankle joint and
maintain balance, particularly when the body’s center of
gravity shifts slightly.
3. Role in Eccentric Contraction:
Although more noticeable during activities like running or
jumping, the Achilles tendon also plays a role in **eccentric
contraction** while standing. In this context, it helps control
downward motion when the body shifts its weight or when
the individual moves from one leg to the other.
4. Stretching and Recoil of the Achilles
Tendon:
During standing, small shifts in weight and body posture
cause the Achilles tendon to stretch and then recoil. This
elasticity helps absorb shock and contribute to the efficient
use of energy, enabling the body to remain stable with
minimal effort.
Force: A force is a push or pull that can cause an object to
move, change direction, or alter its shape.
1. Internal Force:
Forces that act within a body or system, typically generated
by muscles, tendons, or bones to produce movement or
maintain stability.
2. External Force:
Forces that act on a body from outside the system, such as
gravity, ground reaction force, or air resistance.
Measure the force of tendon achilles
while standing
Internal force × d=external force × d
Given:
Weight= 41kg = 41×10= 410N
External distance= 5cm=0.05m
Internal distance= 0.04m
=>410N×0.05m= 20.5Nm
=>20.5/2 = 10.25Nm
Internal force × d= 10.25Nm
=>external distance= 0.04m
Internal force×0.04=10.25
Internal force= 10.25/0.04=256N
If internal distance is changed to 0.07 then:
=>256N×0.07m= 17.92Nm
=>17.92/2 = 8.96Nm
Internal force × d= 8.96Nm
=>d= 0.04m
Internal force×0.04=8.96
Internal force= 8.96/0.04=224N
