TOPIC: CLEANING FURNITURE
Technical Terms
Renaissance – a situation or period of time when there is a new interest in something that has not been
popular on the long time

cleaning product
TYPE OF Furniture / living room
1. Sofa bed – this a type new alternative for couch and sofas
2. Sectional furniture – this kind of furniture include several items
3. Ottoman- this is a famous kind of furniture
4. End table – commonly you place it near to or on the side of a chair or sofa and couch
5. Curio cabinet – unlike other cabinet this one has glase doors commonly if not , they do not have
doors at all
Other type of furniture
1. Dining room table – these tables are designed to be used for formal dinning
2. Bedside tables, Night tables or Night stand – these small tables used in a bedroom. They are often
used for Catherinian placement of a small lamp, alarm clock, glasses, or other personal items
3. China cabinet- it is piece of furniture resembling a cupboard with doors and shelves and drawer
that holds fine chinaware
4. Cupboard – it is a type of storage cabinet often made of wood, used indoor to stone household
items such as food crockery, textiles and liquor and protect them from dust and dirt
5. Dresser – a piece of furniture with drawer, usually with a mirror on top. Used especially for
keeping clothes and accessories, used to display, cosmetic and dressing accessories
6. Gateleg tables – they have one or two hinged leaves supported by hinged legs
7. Coffee table – these are low table designed for use in a living room, in front of a sofa, for
convenient placement of drinks, books, or other personal items
8. Refectory tables – these are long table designed to seat many people for meals
9. Workbenches – these are sturdy tables often elevated for use with a high stool or while standing,
which are used for assembly repair or other precision handwork

DIFFERENT FURNITURE STYLES
1. GOTHIC FURNITURE – it was heavily carved and decorated characteristic by columns cut -cut and
extravagant tracery however this furniture movement was more about style the practicality and
2. Renaissance furniture – the renaissance period began in France in the 13th century
3. Tudor – furniture during the Tudor is was very large and carved with many straight lines
4. Jacobean – replacing the Tudor style. Jacobean furniture was mainly made from oak and legs on

5. Rococo – this furniture style was excessive elaborate fanciful and made use of curve
6. Neoclassic – influenced by archeological discovered in the 18th century in countries such as Greece
and Italy the neoclassic furniture style began in 1750 lasted and until 1880
7. Art Nouveau – it was an ornate and delicate furniture style that often feature long and curve lines
8. Scandinavian – this type of furniture is characteristics by simple but quality craftsmanship using
lightweight materials such as plywood
9. Country – this furniture style is created by craftsman influenced by the old-fashioned and
traditional style rather than any modern movement producing rustic look
10. Japanese – traditional Japanese décor style are minimalist with little furniture used in a room.
FURNITURE CARE AND MAINTENANCE
1. Upholstered furniture
a. Remove any loose dirt from the upholstered, used a small dusting brush to brush the
upholstered until it is free from any visible dirt
b. Vacuum the furniture. Using a brush attachment out a vacuum cleaner
c. Make a detergent mixture mix 1 part laundry detergent to 4 part warm water in a large mixing
bowl
d. Test the detergent mixture I – an inconspicuous spot
e. Scrub the detergent mixture into of the upholstered use is springe to rush the mixture into the
furniture
f. Vacuum the furniture regularly in order to reduce 1 amount of heavy soiling
2. Wooden furniture
a. Wipe all dust and loose dirt from the wood
b. Keep the wood dusted regularly
