1.) The title of the movie is Saving Private Ryan.

The producers were Ian Bryce, Mark Gordon, Gary Levinsohn, and Steven Spielberg. The director was Steven Spielberg. The production company is Mark Gordon Productions. Two major actors were Tom Hanks and Matt Damon. 2.) A major event was when the squad discovered Private Ryan. Although Ryan was given the right to go home, he decided to stay at war because he was with the only brothers he had left. This event showed the loyalty and valor some displayed during the war. 3.) A character I admire is Captain Miller, played by Tom Hanks. Miller is a former schoolteacher and the leader of the squad on a mission to find Ryan. Miller is an admirable character because of his intellect; his rank and actions, including those that helped Ryans detachment in the climactic battle at the Merderet River, prove this quality. Miller is also admirable because of his sense of responsibility; this trait is shown when the squad encounters a German machine gun nest which his squad describes as an unnecessary objective, but Miller still decides to attack due to prevent the German squad from killing any other Americans. A third admirable trait of Millers is his ability to keep calm; he is able to use this trait in various situations, such as him keeping his squad calm as a fight between two GIs was about to break out. These three traits of Captain Miller make him a character who can be looked up to. 4.) Life in the setting of the movie was a life of turmoil. Soldiers are constantly living in uncertainty, not knowing whether they or the next soldier may live or not; this is made evident when two members of the squad are killed in the search for Ryan, and several more during the climactic battle. Another part of daily life for soldiers was how the experience of war brought up tension even among friends; for example, Horvath almost shoots Reiben when Reiben threatens to desert. Soldiers had to live very uncomfortably on the battlefield, like when soldiers had to give up their socks just to produce a special type of bomb for the upcoming battle. Life was also difficult for the families of fallen soldiers; Private Ryan loses all four of his brothers, which not only causes him, but also his mother grief. Life was also difficult for the European civilians, like when a French man attempts to assure his daughters safety by trying to give her to the squad. 5.) The movie enhanced my understanding of the historical period by showing me what it was like during WWII. I saw what the Invasion of Normandy looked like. I saw how soldiers fought and how they lived.
