etermined. Relentless.
Stubborn.
Thats how Seneca bas-
ketball phenom Brittany
Snows parents describe
their daughter.
Snow recently surpassed both
girls and boys all-time scoring
record in varsity basketball with
1,083 points.
The 18-year-old said she was
present when Chelsea Grover
scored 1,079 and when Rich Mc-
Namara set the previous record
with 1,081 points.
The 6-foot tall senior scored 86
points as a freshman, 344 as a
sophomore, and 449 as a junior.
She has been on the varsity team
since her freshman year.
My family always pushed me
to do my best, Snow said, noting
her parents are always 100 per-
cent behind her.
Her grandparents also attend
all of her games.
Its really nice because you al-
ways know you have your own lit-
tle cheering section at the
games, Snow said, adding its
good to have people you know in
the stands because they can con-
sole her if she makes mistakes.
Snow got a full scholarship to
Stony Brook University on Long
Island, and plans to study biology
there.
SNOW DAY

Teacher of the year
named at Seneca
By SEAN PATRICK MURPHY
The Tabernacle Sun
When Greg Bauer found out he
was named Seneca High Schools
Teacher of the Year for the 2011-
2012 school year, he was totally
floored.
Im totally blown away by it,
Bauer said. Im humbled by it.
He noted he is surrounded by a
lot of great teachers at Seneca
who love kids.
To be chosen from this staff is
pretty amazing, he said.
Bauer has taught environmen-
tal earth science at Seneca since
it opened nine years ago. He has
been teaching 13 years overall.
A Southampton native, he at-
tended Lenape High School.
Bauer said he comes from a
family of teachers.
That was certainly part of it,
he said of his choice to be a
teacher.
Bauer went to North Carolina
State University and was plan-
ning to study medicine, but he
says he discovered that wasnt
what he wanted to do with his life.
He said he liked the idea of work-
ing with kids.
Bauer took education courses
in college and kind of immedi-
ately figured out thats what he
wanted to do for the rest of his
life.
He said something as simple as
daily interaction with kids is the
most rewarding part of his job.
I get the opportunity to work
with kids every day and help
them in their journey through
school, Bauer said. I get a lot of
joy out of that.
He also enjoys having former
students tell him of their success.
Its a neat experience, Bauer
said. Its very rewarding.
Budget problems in the last few
years, the drying up of state
money and an increase in class
sizes provide the biggest chal-
lenges for him as a teacher, Bauer
says.
Weve had to maintain or get
better at what we do with less re-
sources, he said.
Bauer said his advice to some-
one considering teaching is to
make sure you love working with
kids all day, every day.
I think thats a big part of it,
he said. If theyre going into
it for that reason, then theyre
going to have a very rewarding
career.
Bauer said he appreciates the
opportunity of working with all
kinds of young people, from spe-
cial ed kids to honors students.
Im always trying to get better
at what I do, he said, noting he
tweaks what he does every year
and tries to follow trends in edu-
cation.
A head wrestling coach and as-
sistant baseball coach at Seneca,
Bauer said he tries to teach
things outside the classroom.
Thats a big part of what we
do as educators, he said. Part of
our job is to not only teach kids
the content, but also to teach kids
to work hard, to teach kids to set
goals. I think as educators, we try
to teach kids a lot of life skills
that theyll take with them, hope-
fully for the rest of their lives. I
think that part of our job is some-
times as important if not more
important than teaching our
content material.

ation management company, is
pleased to announce a new part-
ner.
Michael Dwyer has been
named as the third owner of AH,
where he joins Chief Executive
Officer Bill MacMillan and Presi-
dent and Chief Operating Officer
Bob Waller.
This partnership positions us
for the continued growth and fu-
ture of the company, said
MacMillan, who founded AH in

Dwyer will serve as AHs sen-

ness development departments.
He also serves as the executive
director of AHs longest-standing

ufacturers association.
When I came to the company
in 2004, I immediately knew that I
wanted it to be the last stop in my
career, and to be able retire from
AH, said Dwyer. And now I will
have that opportunity.
Dwyer is recognized as a leader
among his colleagues, and was
the recipient of the 2011 Mid At-
lantic Society of Association Ex-
ecutives (MASAE) Points of

She is interested in medical
school and thinks she may
someday be a doctor because sci-
ence is her favorite subject.
I like helping people, Snow
said, noting science and philan-
thropy are a great fit.
And what of her accomplish-
ments?
I never thought I could do
that, she said of reaching 1,000
points. I never thought Id actu-
ally pass the records.
Snow laughed when she said
she probably fell a lot as a child
because she pushes herself too
hard.
I dont give up, she said. I
just keep going and even when
things look too hard, I know
somehow well get them done.
A member of the National
Honor Society, Snow said she
likes to learn things she can use.
And her advice is simple.
It sounds corny, but it really
comes down to hard work, Snow
said. If you work hard enough
you can do it, you just have to put
in the hours and the effort.
Donna Snow, Brittanys moth-
er, said her daughter always
wanted to learn how to do things
and then how to excel at them.
She was pretty determined in
whatever she wanted to do,
Donna said.
Brittany was in second-grade
when she first started playing,
but has had a ball in her hand
since she was 6. She started play-
ing AAU basketball in seventh-
grade.
Its really her toughness and
tenacity when shes out on the
court, Donna said. Thats really
what sets her apart.
She also said Brittany has a
stubborn side.
Shell stand up for what she
thinks is right, Donna said.
She also said she is happy her
daughter is attending Stony
Brook.
We could not be prouder,
Donna said. We feel like we hit
the lottery when she was offered a
full scholarship.
Rich Snow, Brittanys father,
said his daughter is relentless.
She would put her mind to
something she could fail but
she didnt quit, he said. She just
wont stop until she gets it right.

6 THE TABERNACLE SUN FEBRUARY 22-28, 2012
in our opinion
T
oday marks a special day at
Elauwit Media, publisher of
The Sun newspapers. We wel-
come West Windsor and Robbinsville
to our family.
These two additions bring our num-
ber of newspapers to 15.
We serve the communities of Had-
donfield, Moorestown, Cherry Hill
East, Marlton, Medford, Voorhees,
Washington Township, Shamong, Mt.
Laurel and Tabernacle in South Jer-
sey.
Now, in Central Jersey, we serve
Lawrence, Montgomery, Hopewell,
West Windsor and Robbinsville.
Most importantly, wed like to thank
everyone for the support we have re-
ceived over the years.
We started with one newspaper, in
Haddonfield, in 2004. Our goal always
has been to provide our readers and
advertisers with the best service possi-
ble. We strive every week to bring you
local news that is important to you.
From coverage of local meetings and
events to features on interesting peo-
ple and activities, we want you to look
forward to receiving your Sun in the
mail every week.
But the true measure of success has
been the involvement of the communi-
ties in their local Suns. We ask our
readers to send us news they want to
share with their friends and neigh-
bors. When students achieve greatness
in the classroom or on the playing
field or when civic groups work to
raise money for a good cause, we want
to hear about it and then tell every-
one else about it.
Weve managed to grow rapidly dur-
ing one of the most difficult economic
times in our nations history and
during a time that has been especially
difficult for many newspapers.
We want to continue to grow. And to
do that, we know we have to publish
newspapers that reflect the values and
priorities of the communities they
serve.
We thank you for your continued
support.
Two new family members
Today, we welcome West Windsor and Robbinsville to the Sun family
Welcome home
Today we want to welcome two new
communities to The Sun family and
thank everyone who has helped us
continue to grow over the years.
On Wednesday, Feb. 15, the Lenape Re-
gional High School District Board of Edu-
cation passed a resolution to move its an-
nual school election from April to Novem-
ber, beginning this year.
The move places school board candi-
dates on the November ballot and elimi-
nates the need for a public vote on the pro-
posed school budget if it remains at or
below the states 2 percent levy cap.
All eight LRHSD sending districts
passed similar resolutions in recent weeks,
which effectively moved the regional
school board election to November. While
not required, Lenape regionals resolution
demonstrates the districts strong support
for the move, which in the view of the
board of education, is in the best interest
of students and the regional communities.
This is a groundbreaking change for
New Jerseys public school districts, in-
cluding Lenape regional, LRHSD Board of
Education President Ted Shinske said.
The change will save taxpayer dollars as
we eliminate the cost of the school budget
vote and reduce the cost of school board
elections by holding them in conjunction
with the annual November elections.
We estimate that moving the election
and eliminating the budget vote will save
more than $56,000 in election costs per year
for four years for the regional district
alone, Lenape Regional High School Dis-
trict Business Administrator James Hager
said.
State statute requires that a districts de-
cision to move the annual election must re-
main in effect for a minimum of four
years.
Hager added that, although the budget
vote is eliminated, districts are required to
follow many of the same steps they followed
to prepare and submit a budget in past
years. The district will hold a public hear-
ing on March 28, followed by a board vote.
Budget information, including tax im-
pact, will be posted on the district website
following the March 28 vote.
For more information about the changes
in the annual school board and budget elec-
tions and this years budget process, visit
www.lrhsd.org to view a list of questions
and answers provided by the New Jersey
Department of Education.
