Frictional force
David Tabor
WHAT IS FRICTION
Friction is a force between two surfaces that oppose
each others motion. The most common example is
that of sliding friction, when you rub the surfaces of
your hands together.
WHO IS
DAVID TABOR
David Tabor, FRS was a British physicist who was an
early pioneer of tribology, the study of frictional interaction
between surfaces, and well known for his influential
undergraduate textbook "Gases, Liquids and Solids".
FRICTION
Advantages of friction
Friction enables us to walk freely.
It helps to support ladder against wall.
It becomes possible to transfer one form of
energy to another.
Objects can be piled up without slipping.
Breaks of vehicles work due to friction.
It always resists the motion, so extra energy is
required to overcome it.
FRICTION
Disadvantages of friction
Friction produces unnecessary heat leading to
the wastage of energy. The force of friction acts
in the opposite direction of motion, so friction
slows down the motion of moving objects.
Forest fires are caused due to the friction
between tree branches.
FACTS ABOUT
FRICTION
by vivaan
Although wheels are great
for rolling and reducing
friction, they couldn't work
without friction.
It would be really tough just
to stand up without friction.
Friction can generate static
electricity.
