What Is Friction?
•Resistance to motion of one object moving
relative to another.
A force that keeps an object at rest. A force that acts between objects in motion.
Others:
Resistance created by two things A force that resists motion within the
sliding over. fluid or of another medium moving
through fluid.
Formula and coefficient
• Formula for friction: f = µR
• Coefficient: Force is independent on the contact
area and doesn’t depend on how fast two objects
are moving.
• Formula for coefficient: µ=fn
• Friction always acts in opposite direction of
intended motion.
Causes of friction:
• Molecular adhesion.
• Surface roughness.
• Deformations.
• Interlocking of irregularities in
surface of two objects.
• Bumping force matching that of the
body.
COMPARISON:
Advantages Disadvantages

• 2.Helps in stopping a vehicle that leads to energy waste.

friction.
Application in daily lives:
• 1. Allows matches to ignite when rubbed.
• 2.We hold onto objects without dropping them by
friction.
• 3.Stops car or bike through the use of brake.
• 4.As we walk , there is friction between the feet
and the floor.
