Foreword
This standard has been prepared under the authority of the JCB Standards and Legislation department
(Standards department).
This standard is intended solely for use in connection with the business requirements of J C Bamford Excavators
Ltd. (JCB) and is for use by appropriately qualified and competent people.
Contractual and legal considerations are not part of the scope of this standard. This standard does not
relinquish any responsibility, regulatory requirements, or duty of care.
This is the third issue of this standard to: add a qualifying sentence to the scope, make reference to the
automatically populated table of tolerances on the drawing sheet, extend the range of permissible tolerances in
tables 1 and 2, add section 8.0 Surface texture.

1.0 Scope
This standard specifies tolerances on drawings. All tolerances stated in this standard apply, unless otherwise
specified.
This standard is applicable to all production drawings within the JCB group.

2.0 References
Always consult electronic master. Paper copies are uncontrolled.

This standard incorporates provisions from other standards / procedures. These references are cited at the
appropriate places within the text and are listed hereafter. For undated references, the latest edition applies.

3.0 Terms and definitions

For the purposes of this standard, the following terms and definitions apply:
Tolerance classes H, K and L are defined in ISO 2768-2

4.0 Concessions
In the case of a failure to conform to the requirements of this standard, a documented concession should be
generated. This concession shall clearly state:
- title and name of person requesting the concession
- the reason why the concession is being requested
- summary of action in place to ensure that concession will be corrected within a specified time
- title and name of director who is authorising concession within the Business Unit
A digital copy of the concession shall be filed with JCB Standards department (concession by e-mail shall be
accepted).

5.0 Drawing designation for tolerances

For drawing and geometrical tolerances, select from the menu the appropriate class required. This will populate
the chart on the drawing sheet with the tolerances stated within this standard.
Drawing to state the following e.g..
"Tolerance comply to STD00023”

The bearing surfaces shall be taken as the datum if they are designed as such. Otherwise for circular radial run-
out, the longer of the two features shall be taken as the datum; if the features are of equal nominal length, either
may be taken as the datum.
The general tolerances on circular run-out (radial, axial and any surface of revolution) are given in Table 6.

NOTE: This surface texture requirement excludes surfaces produced by automated flame, plasma, laser, wire EDM or abrasive water jet
cutting techniques and any surface narrower than 3mm.
