Selecting Well Test Methods and Procedures

The document outlines the steps for conducting well tests, starting with selecting the appropriate test method based on objectives and conditions. It emphasizes the importance of designing a detailed procedure that includes pre-test, test, and post-test activities. Finally, it discusses the analysis of well test data to estimate reservoir and fluid properties using various analytical methods.

2Select well test method

The next step is to select the most appropriate well test method for the
objectives and conditions of the test. There are different types of well
tests, such as drill stem tests (DSTs), production tests, injection tests,
interference tests, and pulse tests. Each method has its advantages and
disadvantages, depending on the reservoir type, fluid phase, well
configuration, and operational feasibility. The well test method should be
able to provide reliable and representative data, while minimizing the
environmental impact and operational hazards.

3Design well test procedure
The third step is to design the well test procedure, which specifies the operational
details and sequence of the test. The well test procedure should include the
following elements: pre-test activities, such as well preparation, equipment
installation, and safety checks; test activities, such as flow rates, pressure
measurements, fluid sampling, and data acquisition; and post-test activities, such
as well cleanup, equipment removal, and data validation. The well test procedure
should be documented and communicated to all the stakeholders involved in the
test.

4Analyze well test data

The fourth step is to analyze the well test data, which involves processing,
interpreting, and modeling the data collected during the test. The well test data
analysis aims to estimate the reservoir parameters, such as permeability, porosity,
skin factor, pressure, and boundary conditions, as well as the fluid properties, such
as viscosity, density, compressibility, and saturation. The well test data analysis
should use appropriate methods and software, such as pressure transient analysis
(PTA), rate transient analysis (RTA), and numerical simulation.
