Divisibility Rules (1-10)

1) Divisibility by 1: Every number is divisible by 1.

2) Divisibility by 2: A number is divisible by 2 if it ends in 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8 (even numbers).

3) Divisibility by 3: A number is divisible by 3 if the sum of its digits is a multiple of 3.

4) Divisibility by 4: A number is divisible by 4 if the last two digits form a number that is a multiple of
4.

5) Divisibility by 5: A number is divisible by 5 if it ends in 0 or 5.

6) Divisibility by 6: A number is divisible by 6 if it follows BOTH the rules for 2 and 3.

7) Divisibility by 7: Double the last digit, subtract it from the rest of the number, and see if the result
is a multiple of 7.

8) Divisibility by 8: A number is divisible by 8 if the last three digits form a number that is a multiple
of 8.

9) Divisibility by 9: A number is divisible by 9 if the sum of its digits is a multiple of 9.

10) Divisibility by 10: A number is divisible by 10 if it ends in 0.

Activity: Test the Divisibility Rules!

Part 1: True or False?

Decide if these statements are true or false. If false, correct them!
1. 48 is divisible by 3 because 4 + 8 = 12.
2. 157 is divisible by 5 because it ends in 7.
3. 120 is divisible by 10 because it ends in 0.
4. 1,236 is divisible by 8 because the last three digits form 236.
5. 90 is divisible by 6 because it is divisible by both 2 and 3.

Part 2: Find the Divisible Numbers

Look at these numbers and list which rules they follow:
- 342 - Divisible by: ________
- 525 - Divisible by: ________
- 1,008 - Divisible by: ________
- 760 - Divisible by: ________
- 2,178 - Divisible by: ________

Part 3: Challenge Question!
