Monologue bridgerton (english version)
I know why you made that vow to your father. I found the letters you wrote to
him as a child, and I read them. Just because something is not perfect… does
not make it any less worthy of love. Your father made you believe otherwise.
He made you believe that you needed to be without fault in order to be loved,
but he was wrong. Should you need any proof of the matter, then… then look
just here. I am tired of pretending. and I cannot continue acting as if I… As if I
do not love you. Because I do. I love all of you. Even the parts that you believe
are too dark and too shameful. Every scar. Every flaw. Every imperfection. I
love you. You may think you are too damaged and too broken to ever allow
yourself to be happy, but you can choose differently, Simon. You can choose
to love me as much as I love you. That should not be up to anyone else. That
cannot be up to anyone else. It can only be up to you.
Who:
Daphne Bridgerton, is the eldest Bridgerton daughter, and the fourth of eight
siblings. She is married to Simon Bassett, the duke of Hasting the 22th may of
1813. She is a duchess. She was born in 1794 in Audrey hall, Kent in
England. She married the duke of Hasting around the age of 21. She was the
first of the eight Bridgerton siblings to marry. She has an interest in art and
history. She always wanted to be a mother. She was the diamond of the
season in 1813.
Where:
We are in the Hasting house in London for the last ball of the season. We are
in the Ballroom in the inner courtyard of the building.
When:
It’s a Friday night in 1813. It's raining. It's summer.
What:
During the evening, Daphne finally looked at her husband and signaled that
she was ready for the waltz. They found themselves on the dance floor, while
all the guests surrounded them. They began to dance and they were joined by
other couples. During the whole waltz, they did not take their eyes off each
other. Thunder was heard and the rain began to fall, stopping the dancing.
Simon tried to bring his wife to shelter but she preferred to stay in the rain and
began to laugh. As some guests were going to join them, Lady Danbury
announced the end of the evening and that they could all leave. Alone, Simon
apologized to Daphne for the bad weather. It wasn't what she had imagined
but for her, it was even better. She also confessed to him that she knew the
reason he made that vow to his father: she had found what he had written as
a child and had read them. She told him that even if a person wasn't perfect,
they deserved to be loved. Her father was wrong to make her believe
otherwise. She was tired of pretending not to love him when it was quite the
opposite. She loved him in his entirety, even his dark and shameful parts. He
could choose to love her as much as she did and he could choose to be
happy. And only he could make that decision. (monologue) She left him alone
in the courtyard.
Why:
Before their marriage, he confesses to Daphne that he cannot have children.
Daphne decides to marry him anyway because she loves him even if she
dreams of being a mother. Some time later, when Daphne and Simon were
married, she learns that Simon can have children, he just doesn't want to
because of his father. He made a promise on his father's deathbed that he
would never have a descendant. For his father, the most important thing was
the continuation of the Hastings line. More important than his mother or him.
This confession creates tension in their relationship. The two lovers are on the
verge of breaking up when she decides to tell Simon everything she feels so
as not to lose him. (monologue)
