Development of Fire Detection Systems in the Intelligent Building

Abstract Fire detection and its corresponding safety systems are crucial parts of an intelligent building. This paper reviews the current state of development of fire detection and alarm systems in the intelligent building. New technologies and concepts developed in intelligent buildings, such as advanced multi-function sensors, computer vision systems and wireless sensors, real-time control via the Internet, and integrated building service systems, have also been reviewed and discussed. However, much effort is still needed to remove barriers to the further development of these new technologies. Introduction An intelligent building can be defined as one that combines the best available concepts, designs, materials, systems and technologies to provide a responsive, effective and supportive intelligent environment for achieving the occupants objectives over the full life-span of the building. Compared with traditional buildings, intelligent buildings should be able to reduce energy consumption, reduce maintenance and service operation costs, provide improved security services, improve ease of layout planning and re-planning, and increase the satisfaction of building occupants. Other benefits should include its adaptability to changing uses and technology and its environmental performance in providing safer, healthier and more comfortable working conditions. Intelligent building proponents also believe that these buildings will improve worker productivity through improved work environments. Over the last two decades, the intelligent building concept has become an important consideration in the planning of many new or upgraded office buildings. It has also been further developed to embrace other types of living and working environments such as homes, factories and education facilities. Problem Identification Billions of dollars are spent annually to install and maintain fire detection systems in buildings to assure safety from unwanted fires, but although all of this, fires are widely expanded in the buildings. Fire Fighting systems need to be more effectively, efficiently and economically. As fir fighting technologies mature, changes to building practices may also result.

Keywords Emerging Sensor Technologies, Smoke detectors, HVAC systems, Development of Remote Monitoring and Control Techniques, Current advanced fire control panels, and Integrated Building Service Systems Objective Improve the capability of fire detection systems to discriminate between fire and no fire threats and will increase the time available for property and life protection This paper reviews the current state of the art for fire detection and alarm systems in intelligent buildings. It identifies new technologies and concepts developed for intelligent buildings that could be used to improve the capability of fire safety systems. The potential effects of integrated building service systems and barriers to the development of fire detection and alarm systems in intelligent buildings are discussed. The paper concludes by examining how these new systems may be combined to provide the next generation of intelligent fire safety systems.

Expected Outcomes The expected outcomes of the research would be in the form of matrix or checklist for the development of Fire Detection Systems.

P.V System to Optimize Energy OF RESIDENTIAL BUILDINGS

Introduction:Living in sunny and hot areas might turn to enjoying the living there, enjoying the summer, drinking cold beverages and having fun... and using lots and lots of airconditioning!!!! For most people, a summer spent in Egypt these days with the raise of the global warming, is as hell. So air-conditioning is a necessity. But it's also a big energy drain, accounting for about 45% of all electricity used in a typical house. So, we need the photovoltaic system in top of our roofs to reduce the energy consumption. The PV systems have several advantages including saving energy, protection from sun, providing shade, which can be implemented with very appealing architecture styles because of their bright colors. Problem Identification Tons of wasted energy is lost from us because we didn t think right in the 1st place! This energy is un-renewable! Several systems as the solar chimney, light shelves, sandwich panels and the photovoltaic system in top of them are necessary for our homes in sake of the energy consumption. Objectives This page will review the method of P.V system, how it works, how it is installed, and how it is going to save our energy. Keywords About the PV System, PV Home's Roof and Windows Beat the Heat, Photovoltaic modules, conservation energy, P.V on our roofs, building integrated PV system, System performance and components. Expected Outcomes The expected outcomes of the research would be in the form of matrix or checklist for architects for using PV systems.
