STAGE-I (SCREENING TEST)

1. Verbal Test. A booklet containing 55-60 questions will be given to the


candidate. A answer sheet containing ser No of questions will be issued
separately to filled by the candidate. The time will be of 30-35 min i.e. 30
seconds for each question.

2. Non Verbal Test. A booklet containing 55-60 questions will be given


to the candidate. A answer sheet containing ser No of questions will be
issued separately to filled by the candidate. The time will be of 30-35 min
i.e. 30 seconds for each question.

3. Picture Prescription Test. A hazy picture having some character


(not visible clearly) will be shown to the candidate on the wall with the help
of slide projector. The candidate will describe their own imagination in four
mins (1 min to see the picture and 3 min to write).

4. Group Discussion. After finishing the above test. A group discussion


will be held in front of the Interviewing Officer, Psychologist and Group
Testing Officer. Your group will be divided into small groups containing 10-
12 candidate in each sub group. The candidate serially from chest No 1 to
last will read the story.

After group discussion, the result will be announced and those


candidate cleared the stage-I will be retained in the SSB for further 3-4 days
to assess their suitability in remaining tests conducted under Stage-II.

Guidelines for Group Discussion

1. Must speak 3-4 times.

2. Your voice should be clear. Not to speak loudly or more slowly.

3. Do not look towards the board.

4. Look towards the candidate who read the story.

5. Be sit straight on the chair.

6. Avoid unnecessary movement of your body.

7. Before start to read the story wish the board. Begin by saying “Dear
friends, the central theme of my story revolves around
dynamic young man named ……………….. and his contribution in
the field of …………….”. After seeing the picture a story has
came to my mind which I will narrate now. i.e. Rahim was a
doctor in district hospital ……………………………….

8. Thereafter give your story loud and clear in about one and half min.

9. This portion is called narration and it must be powerful.

10. Never speech more than require.

11. In group discussion – Begin by saying “Friends, we all agree that we


have identified character in the picture shows to us it appears as if a group
of young people are happily involved in some creative work”.

12. As a dynamic candidate we can make many stories on the


picture shows to us my friends have come up with good ideas
relating to :-

13. Value addition (Imp). Means adding a sensible point to your story
or in the
story of any other candidate.

PART-I

Thematic Appreciation Test

Introduction

This is a fact of imagination in which a scene of the picture are shown one after
the other. In each picture there is a seen in which the candidate has to observe
(perceive) sum kind of object/subject (team) with become the basis of writing a story. It
every picture there would be some characters. Out of whom one character would be
the Hero character, who would be reflecting the candidate own personality.

The test is based upon a theory named as “Need-cum-processed” theory which


is created by Prof Murray, USA. According to this theory an Indl experience a kind of
need now and then which can be called as a problem or a challenge for him. After
arousal of need a kind of press action is created which process the human mind and
bodies into certain action while taken those actions. Some action would be created
meaning a sense of action, which shaped the form of story, resulting into the success
of the imagine tic Hero.

Rules of the Test

1. 12 pictures are shown incl one blank picture.

2. Time
(a) For projection of picture – 30 seconds.
(b) For writing story – 4 minutes (3+1).
(c) Length of story is half of a page to be filled by single paragraph.

3. Analyzing of the Theme. The following four question are raised in your mind
while analyzing the story :-

(a) What. It means what is happening (what action is shown in the picture).

(b) Where. It means where the action had taken place, whether on road, in
city, in village or market, at river or in a jungle etc.

(c) Who. It means there are two characters namely Hero and side characters:-

(i) Criteria of Man Characters. Identify the Hero by virtue of your own
sex and age.

(aa) Give him short and sweet name of the Hero.

(ab) The name should represent four communities e.g. Hindu,


Muslim, Sikh and Christians like Ramesh, Rahim, Harbinder Singh
and Victor or Thomas.

(ac) Give him a like leadership character/states like Dr,


Manager, Engineer, Professor, Army Officer, Scientist, Village
Pradhan or Sarpach or a businessmen etc.

(ad) The Hero should not be shown as a hesitate character


like depressed, harass, disappointed and death at the end.

(ii) Criteria for side Character. No name to be given to the side
character and no villain character to be shown a side character.

(d) Why. It means why was the Hero present at the scene. Meaning problem
or need of the situation he has felt.

4. How do write the story. The story will have three parts i.e. opening parts,
middle parts and end parts.

(a) Opening Parts. It should be in past tense. What let to the situation. This
part should be completed 20% parts of the whole story.

(b) Middle Parts.

(i) What all are happening on happened. This part of Prof Murray’s
theory. All action taken by the character Hero to achieve the aim. This part
of story covers four factors of the OLQ.
(aa) Planning and Organization. This factor explain by the aim
taken by the Hero.

(ab) Social adjustment. This factor is reflected by the Hero


interaction with other showing good adjustment, helping attitude
showing to other.

(ac) Social Effectiveness. This factor will be reflected by the


Hero’s influence ability on the group by showing a particular
problems.

(ad) Dynamic Factor. This factor will be reflective by Hero


successful achievement of the aim where the hidden value and his
determination, his courage, his str and stamina.

This part of story should cover min70% part the whole story.

(c) End Part. What would be the result/conclusion of the story. In this part
repeat the aim taken in the beginning and successful accomplishment with addl
freezes like the Hero rendering a social service, showing a sense of
achievement, showing a sense of satisfaction for every one. His dream came to
true. In this part do not show your Hero as a reward receiver eg. Receiving cash
and material, award, receiving thanks based upon.

The principle of ‘Bible’ they says do the duties, reward is not he concerned.
This part should cover only 10% of the total story.

5. General Instructions

(a) Do not give any heading or title to the story.


(b) Write your story in the past tense.
(c) Avoid any over writing or cutting.
(d) Convert a negative picture into a positive theme.

6. Blank Story Guidelines.

(a) Story of own imagination. Write a story of your own imagination as the
following themes :-

(i) A scientific story in which the Hero was a scientist working in a


scientific research center, who created a new invention to beneficial men
kind for any field of human research. The fd are Med, Agriculture, space,
defence ornaments, computer. Any fd of practical value.

(ii) A story of an adventure in which the Hero was the leader of the
adventure team alongwith other eg Mountaineering, Tracking, Hiking, Sky
diving, para sailing or any other adventure sports.

(iii) Story of outstanding social service in which your Hero was the leader
of NGO in the evocating exercise during any natural climate i.e.
earthquake, cyclone or draught condition.

(iv) An enemy encounter in which the Hero was Cdr of forces leading the
Operation to the victory for the nation eg any battle operation.

(a) Stage of Research

 The aim establish the hypothesis.

 Approved of hypothesis by the Director of scientific research Institute.

 Creation of a group of fallow scientists in which he will be the leader.

 Collection of data of the similar research conducted in the world.

 The similar research did not carried out in the world.

 Experimental and trails on the new system to find out reliability and
validity.

 After reliability and validity. The scientist will make a project report and
submit to the dir for his approval.

 The director asked the scientist to make a presentation of the research


which will be shown to the other scientists and media agencies and
news agencies to give it publicity.

PART-II
SITUATION REACTION TEST (SRT)

1. Introduction. In this test a series of situation are given in which the Hero
figure is identify as ‘He’ who is facing a kind of problem. In the answer the candidate
has to write as to what would be situation of the problem by using min possible words
without writing a sentence in which the work he will not be repeated.

2. Rule of the Test

(a) About 60 situation will be given to solve.


(b) Time – 30 seconds for each hence total 30 min time would be given.

3. Technique

(a) Refer to the general guidelines which has already been copied.
(b) Refer to the following master guidelines, which are thumb rules of the test :-

(i) The activities of the Hero is to be continue in all the situations.

(ii) Whenever the leader of the show is missing the Hero should be
shown as leader of the show by taking the responsibility.

(iii) In the even of people panicking or crying, use the word “Pacified
them”.

(iv) In the even of any social disorder, use the word “tactfully,
persuaded/convinced, people not to do so”.

(v) In the even of pick pocketing, use the words “caught him red
handed and handed him over to the police”.

(vi) In the event of teasing, use the word “challenge the pers, ask
him to behave properly and apologize to girl.

(vii) In the event of natural climate, use the word “rehabilitated the
people”.

(viii) When there is a confused between the Hero and his


friends/police/class mates/room mates/elders, use the work
“compromise with them”.

(ix) When the Hero is alone and attacked by a single pers in which the
Hero is accompanied by other and attacked by a group, use the
word ‘over powered them’.

(x) When the financial need is of long term basis, use the word ‘took
up part time job and continue activities’.

(xi) When the Hero is right in his ideas, use the words “convinced
them and other use the words accepted his mistake
gracefully”.

(xii) In the sports ground whenever there is social disorder, use the
words “ask them to show sportsmen spirit and control the
situation”.

Situations

1. Accidents

(a) He met with a serious accident while going on a bicycle or scooter resulting
into serious injury to pillion rider and serious damage to his vehicle. He…. (took
the injured to the nearest hosp leaving his vehicle safely behind/or locked
behind for repair later.)

(b) Going on bicycle he was hit by a speeding car. He….. (balance his
movements noted down car number and reported to traffic police).

(c) While moving on a bicycle towards his village, carrying his brother,
suddenly found the vehicle punctured and his brother was running high
temperature, no public transport was available. He ….. (took lift from a passer
by vehicle (bullock cart/truck/tractor) to take his brother to the nearest
doctor on the way).

2. Crossing the River

(a) While returning from picnic, he had to cross the river with his friend, when
he found that the temporary bridge had collapsed. He ….... (swim across the
river).

(b) While going over the bridge, on a river with his friends he found half of the
party had already crossed the bridge when suddenly the bridge collapsed.
He…... (arrange boat for the remaining).

(c) Mid stream of the river, he found his board over returning. He….. (jumped
out and swim across to the river bank and use life saving jacket or rubber
tube to cross over the river).

(d) While going on a boat, he found that the boat had developed a leak/or hole

3. Fire Station

Lecturate

1. Briefing. In this task you are required to speak on a current topic with little bit
of preparation.

(a) GTO has a set of cards.

(b) On each card, four topic are printed on of high or one of low and two of
average label.

(c) You are to select one of the topic out of four to speak.

(d) Three min are given for prep and three min to speak.

(e) You are work with a well after two and half min to indicate to you then you
are left 30 sec to speak.

2. Conduct

(a) You are seated in a stroke line or a row square in front of a lecture stand
on an empty chair.

(b) You are seated in a square and will be called in sequence.

(c) When called 1st candidate will come to GTO and pick up a card go into a
distance away for preparation, well called 1st candidate to go and pick a
card go far away for preparation.

(d) After two and half min a single well will be given by GTO.

(e) Hearing the well, No 2 candidate will get up and come to GTO to pick up
a card and go for preparation and hearing this well, No 1 candidate will
come back to GTO return the card choose for the subject leave the card
face up on the table go to the lecture stand and commence speaking.

(f) When two and half min are over, the single well will be given by GTO at
which No 3 candidate will get up to get the card No 2 to return the card
and No 1 will understood, he has 30 sec for move to speak.

(g) When 3 Min are over GTO will given two well at which No 1 will sit down
and No 2 will commence start.

(h) In case you finish your lecture in less then three min, you may sit down,
next person will get his 3 min prep time. During the 1 st candidate
preparation time, GTO may ask you few question reply to them
intelligently.

3. What to do.

(a) Read topics carefully.


(b) Select topics quickly.
(c) Collect your thought on the topic.
(d) Structure them in a sequence.
(e) If required you divide the topic in three-four parts.
(f) Speak confidently
(i) Stand facing squarely.
(ii) Speak loud and clearly voice.
(iii) Do no bother about what other think.
(iv) Speak with the confident that you know the subject to the people
sitting in front of you.
(v) Control you stress or tension by breathing, balance or eye contact.
GROUP PLANNING EXERCISE
1. Briefing.
(a) A story given to you which has three-four problems.
(b) It may have a minor problem.
(c) Requirement is to solve all the problems.

(d) The task is carried out in five parts.
(i) In the 1st part GTO will explain the are in which the story taken place
with the help of a story bd.

(ii) In the 2nd part GTO read out the story from the story card
pointing out relevant feature of the story on the story bd so that the story is
better understood.

(iii) In the 3rd part each are of you will be given a story card for you all to
read, understand and assimilated the story. This will be given only 4-5 min
after that the story card will be withdrawn from you.

(iv) In the 4th part, now the candidate will be given a paper sheet,
writing material and 10 min of time in which you are required to write your
solution to the various problems which you may have found in the story.
After 10 min you are written solution and the writing material will be
withdrawn from you.

(iv) In the 5th par, now you require to discuss the solution as arrive at
group solution with 10 min. This gp solution should be expectable to most
of you and not of you. At the and of 10 min or whenever gp solution is
reading one of you to getup come to the board and give the gp solution.

Note :- No credit is given to the candidate giving the gp solution. No


body is permitted to speak from the gp during the one candidate is being
given the solution.

1. So far you are working at indoor on non physical task. Now you will be working
at outdoor on physical task and the task is known as Progressive Group Task. The
task is called progressive as it is divided in four part task is becoming more and more
interesting.

2. Task will also require more time more physical and mental efforts in
progressively incremental order.

3. We will go out as we are plain four obstacle course game.

4. Since, there are no natural obstacle likes river, cannel, Nala etc at SSB. These
obstacle will be created by embedding bricks in ground and making lines there of.

5. Two such lines will be called Start Line and Finish Line and the are between
them being considered on obstacle will be placed out of Bound.

6. These SL or FL will be painted white to stand out on ground.


7. To assist you the task or you will help you with some structure made up of Balli,
Plunk, Wooden blocks, rope, drum, iron rode etc may be found embedded in ground.
You can make use of them.

8. To help you are having sum helping material like Balli, plunk, wooden blocks,
rope etc may also be given.

9. To make the task little more interesting a black box or drum called load may also
be given and is to be required to be carried alongwith you to the finish line of the 4 th
stage of test.

10. So that the task is that all candidate alongwith this load making use of helping
mtrl and the structure embedded in ground are to cross obstacles by obstacle and
reach beyond the finish line of the 4th stage of task.

11. Like all games this four stage obstacle game also have some rules.

12. These rules will be explained to you by the GTO in fair and of details.

14. These rules are explained only once on the task commence. No clarification are
given.

15. The same rules will be applicable for all physical tasks carried out on that and the
next day and these rules will not be explained again.

16. Therefore, it is all the more imp that you understood these rules thoroughly.

Rules for PGT

1. Group Rule. All candidates alongwith helping mtrl and load are to across the
finish line of the 1st stage of the task before they can proceed to the next stage of the
task.

2. Distance Rule. Any distance which is more then 4 ft vertically or horizontally or


diagonally are not permitted to cross will have to make use of helping mtrl and the
structure embedded in ground to reduce the distance to 4 ft or less then 4 ft before you
can proceed.

Note :- Every one must have a very good idea as to how much is
4 ft distance.

3. Rule for Starting Line & Finish Line (SL & FL). SL & FL are painted white
embedded with brick line straight. However, they will be considered to be extending to
infirmity or other side.

4. Rule for Helping Material (HM). There are two types of HM provided to you
solid by Balli, plunk, wooden block etc and soft rope/ropes :-

(a) Two Single Solid Helping Material (SSHM) can not be tide together.

(b) 1 x SSHM can be placed or supported on other SSLM.

(c) A SSHM can be tide to any structure embedded in ground.

(d) A rope can be tide to any SSHM and/or to any structure embedded in
ground.

(e) Two ropes is given can be tide together to form a longer rope if you so
desire.

(f) Rope can be bundled or coiled together and can be placed on any
structure or any helping mtrl.

(g) While carrying the rope it will be carried in a coiled or bundled form in your
hand and on your shoulder.

(h) Under no circumstances whatsoever a rope will be carried around your


neck.
5. Rule for Load. Load is to be bundled like a baby :-

(a) Do not get to much all with the load, it is basically provided for the working
satisfaction of a candidate who is physically strong but mentally weak in
ideas.

6. Rule for Colour. These are basically four colour found in SSB which are white,
blue, red and black.

(a) White . White colour is universally consider to be colour of Peace.


Therefore any thing which is painted white will be considered in bounce for
all.

(b) Red. Red colour is universally considered colour of danger, therefore this
colour will be considered out of Bound for all.

(c) Blue, Yellow & Green. One of the colour blue, yellow or green may
also be found on some of the structure. This colour is considered in bound
for the candidate but out of bound for the helping material and load. This
colour is generally found close to ground. It does not have any significance
of its own. It will be considered of the same colour which painted just
above red. It is basically on anti termite paint.

7. Rule for One Time Mobile Drum (OTMD). A white painted drum with a red
strip called OTMD may also be provided in the task :-

(a) OTMD may or may not be provided.

(b) If is provided it is only for that state of task.

(c) It may be provided SL,FL or any where in the Out of Bound (OOB) area.
Where is provided GTO will clarify, explain its loc to you while explaining
the task.

(d) As per the rule and the name OTMD (One Time Mobile Drum) can be
picked up and placed any where in the OBB Area once that to following all
other rules.

(e) Once it is placed it will be considered a fixed object/structure and can not
be moved thereafter.

(f) Leave the OTMD wherever it was placed by you and carry on further with
task.

Demonistration

GTO will take you around and show you all the obstacles. He will explain
each of obstacles to your SL & FL, OOB Area, HM, Load , OTMD, Colours etc.
He may revise rules with you.

8. Conduct.

(a) Once you reach the FL of the 4th stage of task during demonstration, he will
now ask you as how much time do you need to do this task. Please remain
unless he ask you specifically then you may say as you wish you sir. As he
ask for time you may say 4o-45 mins.

(b) He will then give you time and ask you to run to the 1 st stage of task and
commence the task.

(c) He will then quietly sit down and stand observing you during the task.

(d) He will continuously note down your performance in his folder.

(e) He will not speak to you at all unless somebody likely to be injured or you
are breaking rules.

(f) Do not look towards the GTO during the task. Concentrate on your task.
Speak only to your collegues in the group.

(g) Come forward all the task and demonstrate your ideas.

(h) If you unable to come fwd on the task give your ideas from where you are.

(i) Be gentlemen all the time.

9. Penalty. Like all games if you break any rules you have to take penalty. The
penalty is that who so ever in which so ever broke the rules is to go back to start line of
next stage of task as commence again.

GROUP OBSTACLE RACE (GOR)

1. In this task your group will be running against other group over a set of six
obstacles.

2. The obstacles are placed in a group of two hundred meter length.

3. These obstacles are divided in a channel.

4. You will be running in other channel.

5. In this task you will be carrying a long thing bundle assembling a snake, therefore
the task is also called snake race.

6. GTO will then tell you that whenever he has got this task done he group has
always won the race.

7. Today also he hopes of all to win the race.

8. He will then ask you loudly are you going to win the race shout loudly ‘Yes Sir’.

Rules for the Race

1. Once you pick up the snake. All of your must hold the snake.

2. Snake will remain straight and parallel to ground while running from one obstacle
to other.

3. Snake can be reduced its length.

4. Snake will follow the same path which you are resumed to do.

5. Group rule will not be applicable.

6. Colour rule will be applicable.

7. While doing an obstacle it may not be possible for all of you to hold the snake. At
this time min 3 of you are to hold the snake and the other can do the obstacle.

Demonstration

1. GTO will take around and show you all the obstacle and explained them as to
what is required to be done of that obstacle.

2. He will then show you the finish line and explain the Finish line procedure.

3. He will than ask you to choose a war cry.

4. He will ask you to run to start Line pick up the snake and get ready for the race.

5. Senior GTO will below the wrestle and will you get the count down. Ready > 3 >
2 > 1 > Go.

6. This movement the race begin GTO will take out a small sheet of paper run
alongwith you and will record your performance.
What to Do.

1. Hold the snake as mush as possible.

2. Remain ahead.

3. Remain very active.

4. Help to each other.

5. Volunteer to repeat.

6. Leave an impression that but for you would not have won the race.

7. Do not high light minor injury.

HALF GROUP TASK (HGT)

Briefing

1. Working in PGT some of you may have felt that do the ideas but would not do the
task in the exact manner in which you want to do it.

2. Keeping in this mind your group will be divided into two half. So that a lesser No
of people in the group you get. Later opportunity to implement your own ideas.

3. The task is known as Half Group Task.

4. A single stage task will be given to you.

5. Time given to do the task will be 10 mins.

6. All the rules except for group rule will be applicable.

7. GTO may ask you as you should how to divide the gp. Please remain quite
unless he ask you specifically. When you may say as ‘You wish Sir’.

8. Then he will divide the one group into two half. Keep one gp in the ground
explain the task and will move you to do the task.

9. Whereas, he will send the other half gp to waiting room or waiting area.

10. When the 1st half gp finish the task they will be sent to the waiting room or area
and the waiting candidate will be brought out to explain the task and will be make to do
the task.

11. This you can see both the half gp do not see each other performing the task and
the same task is given to both the half gp.

INDIVIDUAL OBSTACLE RACE (IOR)

Briefing

1. In this task you are required to do ten obstacle in a time break of 3 mins.

2. These obstacle are placed in a ground of 50 x 75 mtrs.

3. These obstacles are serially numbered from 01 to 10 and they carry the same No
of mark as the obstacle No.

4. These obstacles are not placed in a sequence No/order. Therefore you can do
them in any sequence you wish to.

5. This is the only task in which you can score more then 100% marks that means
repeating an obstacle is permitted. However rule for repeating is that you should have
complete it all the ten obstacle successfully once. Whichever obstacle will be repeated
by the candidate who have extra marks.

6. In case you can get stuck on any obstacle after one-two attempt leave it. Time
permitting you can come back and do it later.

7. It you complete all the obstacle successfully then you will be scored marks.

Demonstration

1. GTO will take you around the show you all the obstacles. He will explain
each/every obstacles.

2. He will also tell you what would constraint you successful completion of each
obstacles.

3. He will then you leave in Gen Area for about a minute or two in which you can
plan the sequence in which you do these obstacles.
Note :- Make a strong plan what is being checked at SSB today as to how you
reasoning out your mind and exercise of body to do these ten obstacles
successfully within the time given.
Conduct

1. You all will be seated facing away the obstacles.


2. You will be seated in sequence and will be called on sequence.
3. GTO will be seated closed and will have a stop watch and a wrestle.
4. When called the first candidate will get up run to and stand next to the
obstacle for their. He wrestle to start.
5. To starting up GTO will below the wrestle and start the stop watch.
6. Hearing the wrestle, No 1 candidate will commence the obstacles.
7. When two & half min are over GTO will shout next. No 1 candidate
to have and realize that he has 30 secs to complete at repeat the obstacles.
8. Hearing next No 2 candidate will get up run go and start next to the
obstacles from where he wish to start.
9. When 3 mins are over GTO will below the wrestle.
10. Hearing the wrestle No 1 will stop and No 2 will commence doing the
obstacles.

What to Do.

1. Get your group testing dress ready in adv and got used to it.

2. Make a strong plan.

3. Plan should be search that the max time is spend in doing the obstacles and
the min time is resistant in running from one obstacle to other.

4. Run fast between the obstacle.

5. Repeat obstacles intelligently.

6. As far as possible obstacle No 5 is to be attempted last.

7. Obstacle No 9 & 10 do boldly.

8. Get you self medically examined.


9. There is no requirement to go to any Army or police est to practice the
obstacle instead of that do more physical fitness exercise.
