com Advanced English Course Syllabus This semester our class will combine work from the course textbook, Advanced English by Mary Elizabeth Smith, with a business research project. We will spend the majority of in-class time working on sections from Advanced English and reviewing the business research project. You will be responsible for completing the business research project outside of class and delivering the completed sections to class on the deadline. Class Materials: In each class we will read a new section from the course textbook, Advanced English. Each week we will have a Vocabulary List of words from the textbook readings and the business research Project. I will upload these lists before each class on the course website: http://selcukiibfadvancedenglish.wordpress.com/ Please check the course website before every class for vocabulary lists, worksheets, and updates. You are responsible for printing the business research project worksheets and vocabulary lists from the class website and bringing them to class. Business Research Project: Our goal this semester is to complete a business research project. For this project you will choose a business and pretend that you are applying for a job with this business. To prepare for a pretend job interview, you must research the business. Every two weeks we will complete a section of research on the business you choose. At the end of the semester, you will have a completed portfolio of research on your business. Every section of the business research portfolio will be calculated in your grade. Your final grade will come from the completed portfolio that you will turn in at the end of the semester. Choosing a Business: Choose a business that interests you. This business can be located anywhere in the world. The business you choose MUST have a website in English. This is the only requirement. Pick your business carefully; you will spend the rest of the semester researching this business. Project Sections: 1. Choose your business: Complete Worksheet 1: Introducing your Business. 2. History of business: Write a summary of the history of your business. Answer the questions on Worksheet 2: History of your Business.
