LG-DOW Polycarbonate International Logistics Outsourcing Project
The Business Issue
LG-DOW Polycarbonate Ltd. is a joint venture between LG Corporation (Formerly LG Chemical), the leading chemical company in Asia and the Dow Chemical Company, the largest Chemical Company in the world. LG-DOW has its manufacturing facilities in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Korea. In 1999, LG-DOW outsourced its entire logistic operation to Korea Express Co.,Ltd. and Nippon Express Co.,Ltd. consortium for the efficient logistic management and reduction in total cost of ownership (TCO). A global logistics operation system was required by this consortium to secure visibility in the entire supply chain of LG-DOW Polycarbonate including procurement, production, and sales.

Our approach
In order to ensure the optimized logistics process, LG CNS developed 3PL Support System for the consortium. With XML based collaboration system LG CNS integrated each company's logistics operation processes through real-time information sharing. LG CNS developed a web based information sharing system to link all the warehouses scattered throughout China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Korea. With this system, LG-Dow Polycarbonate integrates all its logistics systems for better operation.

How it worked
LG CNS 3PL Support Service brought 3 positive effects: global inventory management, conservation on human resources, and concentration on core competency. This web based system enabled enterprise-wide inventory checking from any regional office. It even allowed inventory management of manufacturing facility in China, where there is no warehouses. LG-DOW can now handle the entire logistics operation with a couple of staff members for each country. However, the most important benefit of all is our IT service that enabled LG-DOW to reach the full competitive potential by concentrating on core competency, while outsourcing the logistics function to professional films.
