Hypothesis
The disinfectant helps in killing off a significant amount of bacteria present on public objects.
Procedure
1. Boil ………..g of gelatin in ………………ml of water.
2. Pour approximately 20ml of the media onto the petri dishes and let in cool in sterile
conditions.
3. Swab a door knob, table and a laptop keyboard with a sterile cotton and store it in clean
ziplock bag.
4. Now spray the same door knob, table and laptop keyboard with a disinfectant and swab
again.
5. In the lab, label the prepared petri dishes.
6. Under sterile conditions, streak the 6 sample swabs onto the labelled petri dishes.
7. Incubate the culture at 27°C for 5 days.
8. Seal the plates with tape and count the number of colonies in each plate.
9. Record results.
Results
Sample Number of colonies (prediction)
Door knob 20
Door knob after disinfectant 10
Table 30

Laptop keyboard 35

(Include pictures and description below the pictures)
For example
Figure A. The figure shows the culture from the door knob before and after the application of a
disinfectant. It clearly shows that the number of colonies reduced after the use of disinfectant.
Similarly write for other samples.
Conclusion
Objects that are publicly used like the door knobs, tables and laptop keyboards are
contaminated by bacteria but with the use of disinfectant this contamination can be
considerably reduced.
Limitations
Our study includes limited number of samples due to less availability of materials. To make this
study more reliable, there is need to increase the quantity of samples.
