BASE
As well as acting as the load-bearing structure for the appliance, the base also contains the hydraulic
components.
- 12 -
1. SUMP ASSEMBLY:
The sump is a container fitted with special ducts which collect and distribute the water for washing the
dishes.
The sump is connected by a series of ducts to the IWMS, the feed ducts to the two spray arms, and
the drain outlet.
2. SALT TANK:
The salt tank contains the salt which is used during the regeneration cycle
The salt tank is connected hydraulically to the IWMS.
The circuits which connect the various components are fitted with special valves designed to guarantee the
efficiency and performance of the system.
- 13 -
The fill water coming from the solenoid valve (2) passes through the air-break (5) to the resin container (11)
and fills the resin washing tank (12), then passing to the volumetric flow switching device (13) which deviates
the water in two directions. A small quantity (1/6) of the water is directed to the volumetric control dosing tank
(14); the remaining water (5/6 of the total flow) is ducted directly to the tub.
This part of the water enters the volumetric tank (14); when the water reaches the maximum level (full), this
actions the drain siphon which transfers the water through a duct towards the bottom. During this phase, the
water flow generates a dynamic pressure in the pressure chamber of the pressure switch (17), thus actioning
the pressure switch, which switches off the solenoid valve, thus allowing the programme to continue.
At the end of the fill cycle, and in any case before the beginning of the subsequent fill cycle, the RESET
solenoid valve (15) is actioned in order to ensure that the volumetric tank (14) is completely emptied, since
any residual water in the tank would alter the quantity of the water fill.
The greater part of the water passing through the volumetric flow switch (13) is directed into the tub in two
directions and in differing quantities.
A small quantity of the water is ducted directly into the tub through the steam vent; the remaining water
passes through a separate duct towards the bottom and flows into the sump.
The main purpose of directing different quantities of water in different directions is to ensure that the
pressure chamber is constantly cleaned and that the level control system functions with the maximum
reliability.
- 14 -
- 15 -
This system controls the path taken by the water during the fill cycle within the IWMS, from the water intake
through the fill solenoid, along the entire internal circuit, and until the water reaches the tub.
This new VOLUMETRIC system controls the quantity of water in each fill cycle by means of a volumetric flow
switch which diverts a small quantity of water (1/6 of the total) into a special volumetric tank.
The system consists of the following components:
14 - Volumetric tank
This system is based on a conventional pressure switch which is connected to a pressure chamber (17) and
whose position makes it possible to control both the water in the volumetric tank and the level of the water in
the tub.
The signal generated by the pressure chamber directly actions the pressure switch and switches off the
solenoid valve.
A second pressure chamber, positioned alongside the pressure chamber for the level pressure switch but at
a different height, controls the anti-overflow device (16). The two pressure chambers are inter-connected.
The signal which is generated by this pressure chamber as the level of the water in the tub increases directly
actions the fill solenoid valve, which closes the mechanical section of the circuit.
- 16 -
- 17 -
The water treatment system performs two functions: it softens the water (i.e. removes the calcium and
magnesium) by means of ion-exchange resins, and regenerates the resins by adding sodium chloride.
11 - Resin tank
The water coming from the solenoid valve passes through the circuit until it reaches the resin tank (11). As it
filters slowly upwards through the resin layer, it is softened; the water then passes into the resin washing tank
(12) and from there it flows through the volumetric flow switch (13) and into the tub.
In the section of the circuit between the air break (5) and the resin tank (11), the water passes through a
calibrated valve (6) into the regeneration tank (7) which contains untreated water; the quantity of water
passing into this tank depends on the selected water hardness level.
- 18 -
- 19 -
During this phase, the regeneration solenoid valve (9) and the resin washing solenoid valve (10) are actioned
simultaneously.
The water deposited in the regeneration tank (7) descends (by gravity) to the salt tank (8), which is
positioned in the base of the appliance. As the water passes through the salt tank, it removes the appropriate
quantity of salty water, then passes upwards to the resin tank (11) where it passes downwards through the
resin layer (instead of passing upwards as in the water softening phase). The water then passes down to the
resin washing water tank (18), which is positioned in the base of the appliance.
The water deposited in the resin washing tank (12) then passes by force of gravity through the resin layer
(11) where it is washed, and then descends slowly to the resin washing water tank (18).
During this phase, the breather valve (19) fitted to the resin washing water tank (18) must open in order to
allow the water to flow correctly through the circuit.
The resin washing water tank (18) is emptied during the first phase of the subsequent drain cycle.
- 20 -
- 21 -
Four volumes of water are utilized for regeneration, totalling approximately 300 cc.
Depending on the type of dishwasher, regulation and exclusion of the regeneration system are performed in
different ways.
REGULATION PROCEDURE
Five different levels of regeneration can be selected, each using a different quantity of water which is
controlled by the aperture or closure of a series of special valves.
The regeneration level is adjusted by turning a 5-position selector knob (located frontally in the upper
left-hand corner) until the mark is aligned with the desired level.
The appliance is factory-set to level 2.
REGULATION PROCEDURE
Ten levels of regeneration can be selected, each of which utilizes a fixed quantity of water (300 cc) and salt
(85 g) for each regeneration cycle.
The level of regeneration is controlled electronically, and is entered by pressing a combination of keys on the
control panel.
The appliance is factory-set to level 4.
- 22 -
- Valves A, B and C may be open or closed, and are connected to the respective dosing chambers
(a, b and c); chamber d is independent (not adjustable).
- If the valve is open, the corresponding dosing chamber is filled during the water fill cycle.
- When the regeneration solenoid valve is energized, the chambers are completely drained of water.
- Valves A, B and C remain open, thus the corresponding dosing chambers (a, b and c) are always filled
with water, chamber (d), too, which is independent, is filled.
- When the regeneration solenoid valve is energized, all the chambers are completely drained of water.
- 23 -
During the drain cycle, the motor operates in reverse direction (clockwise as seen from the impeller side),
thus draining the sump (20).
This generates a vacuum in the drain circuit, which empties the pressure chamber of the pressure switch
and causes the separation valve (21) for the resin washing water to open; this ensures that the tank which
contains the resin washing water (18) is emptied.
To ensure that this tank is completely drained, the breather valve (19) fitted to the top of the tank must close
in order to prevent the pump from switching off before the tank is completely empty.
- 24 -
The steam venting chamber is connected directly to the tub, and performs several functions:
- During the water fill cycles, it transfers to the tub any water that is dispersed as it passes through the air
break, as well as any excess water from the regeneration tank when this is full, and a small quantity of
water which overflows from the volumetric flow switch.
- It equalizes the pressure inside and outside the tub during the washing programme even if the door is
opened or closed, thus preventing any possible deformation of the tub, or resetting of the pressure switch
to the empty condition, or interruptions of the cycle etc.
- It improves the drying results by allowing the steam to condense on the internal surface of the steam
venting chamber.

The table below shows the meanings of the various Alarm Codes which may appear in the DIGIT window
and the possible causes of each.
- 44 -
For the trouble-shooting procedure, the modular wiring connector fitted to the base of the appliance can be
used (after removing the connector from the socket) to measure the resistance and thus the efficiency of the
various components fitted to the appliance. To do this, a standard tester is used.
A VERIFICATION PROCEDURE has been created in order to identify the component to be tested; the test
points to which the tester probes should be applied for each component are described below, together with
the correct resistance values.
TRADITIONAL DW ITRONIC DW
(ELECTROMECHANICAL TIMER) (ELECTRONIC TIMER)
N.B. If the resistance across contacts 1 - 8 and 3 - 8 is the same (28 ohm approx.), this means that the
capacitor is short-circuited.
