Nature and background of outdoor activities.


What is Recreation?

 Derived from the Latin word recreare means to be refreshed.


 Choices depends on the persons` preference.
 Activities that depend on one’s interest, pursuits and need which maybe
reflective of one’s beliefs and level of gratification.
What is outdoor Recreation?
 An Organized activities done during ones` free time for his/her own personal
reasons, where interaction between man/woman and element of nature is
present.
What is Free Time?
 A time in which a person is not obligated to perform anything within the
period of time.
3 parts of a day according to clayne r. jensen.
 Existence time :time to spent for biological needs like having a meal,
sleeping and other personal Care.
 Subsistence time: time refers to the hours spent for economic purposes such
as going to work, chores, and for students hours spent in school and school
work.
 Free time: The remaining time after doing all the daily activities.
Outdoor Recreation activities.
 Activities that allows the person to enjoy the beauty of the environment that
improves mental health and environmental awareness.

List of some possible outdoor recreational activities for you


Mountaineering
 Mountaineering -Is the sport of climbing a mountain. Regardless of the
length of the trip ―which can range from a few hours to multi-day
expeditions.

Trekking/hiking
 Hiking involves a long energetic walk in a natural environment
on hiking trails or footpaths for a day or overnight. Trekking involves a
long vigorous hike in wild natural environment for multiple days. It can
be done off hiking trails
Camping
 Camping is an outdoor activity involving overnight stays away from
home in a shelter, such as a tent or a recreational vehicle. Typically
participants leave developed areas to spend time outdoors in more
natural ones in pursuit of activities providing them enjoyment.
Picnic
 A picnic is a meal taken outdoors as part of an excursion – ideally in
scenic surroundings, such as a park, lakeside, or other place affording
an interesting view, or else in conjunction with a public event such as
preceding an open-air theater performance, and usually in summer.
Bird-watching
 Birdwatching, or birding, is a form of wildlife observation in which the
observation of birds is a recreational activity or citizen science. It can be
done with the naked eye, through a visual enhancement device like
binoculars and telescopes, by listening for bird sounds, or by watching
public webcams.

Mountain biking
 Mountain biking is a sport of riding bicycles off-road, often over rough
terrain, usually using specially designed mountain bikes.

Rock climbing
 Rock climbing is a sport in which participants climb up, down or across
natural rock formations or artificial rock walls. The goal is to reach the
summit of a formation or the endpoint of a usually pre-defined route
without falling.
Swimming
 Swimming is an individual or team racing sport that requires the use of
one's entire body to move through water. The sport takes place in pools
or open water.
Snorkeling
 Snorkeling is the practice of swimming on or through a body of water
while equipped with a diving mask, a shaped breathing tube called a
snorkel, and usually swim fins. In cooler waters, a wetsuit may also be
worn.
Diving
 Underwater diving, as a human activity, is the practice of descending
below the water's surface to interact with the environment. Immersion
in water and exposure to high ambient pressure have physiological
effects that limit the depths and duration possible in ambient pressure
diving.
Surfing
 Surfing is a surface water pastime in which the wave rider, referred to
as a surfer, rides on the forward part, or face of a moving wave, which
usually carries the surfer towards the shore.

Parasailing
 Parasailing, also known as parascending or parakiting, is a recreational
kiting activity where a person is towed behind a vehicle while attached
to a specially designed canopy wing that resembles a parachute, known
as a parasail wing. The manned kite's moving anchor may be a car,
truck, or boat

Skydiving
 Skydiving is parachuting from an airplane for fun. Skydiving can be
done individually and with groups of people.
Paragliding

 Paragliding is the recreational and competitive adventure sport of flying


paragliders: lightweight, free-flying, foot-launched glider aircraft with
no rigid primary structure. The pilot sits in a harness or lies supine in a
cocoon-like 'speed bag' suspended below a fabric wing.

 Revitalize all the different aspect of life

 All activities are held for everybody’s enjoyment.

Spectator Type
-People spend their time watching the event and derive enjoyment from it.

Participant Type
-People do not gain enjoyment merely by watching; they do so by joining the
activity

Active and Passive Type of Recreation

Active Type
- People have to function effectively in performing the action.
Passive Type
- People have no excessive movement in performing the tsk in action.

Physical and Mental

Physical Activity
- People exert effort and bodily functions in performing the action.
Mental Activity
- The mind is doing the functions with less body movements

Public. Private, and Commercial


Public Type
- Involve the general Public.
Private Type
- Confined to people working in private companies.
Commercial Type
- Endorsing products which are open to everybody.
