The Homeless Film Festival is a Donkey Stone Films project to establish a strong link between one of the worlds most successful growth industries and one of the worlds growing social issues, namely, using the film industry as a means for homeless people to move forward with their lives and away from poverty. It will open up numerous doors for progression, and as a collaborative project, build a strong cross-industry network between filmmakers, educational practitioners & organisations, homelessness charities, and volunteering organisations around the world. Creating a centralised celebration of creative work achieved towards the eradication of homlessness.
The Homeless Film Festival 2012 is a touring festival, aimed at screening some of the worlds best homeless related films ever made! The festival encompasses screenings of major feature films with post-screening special guest Q&As, as well as a short film programme, and will tour leading independent cinemas in the UK and Ireland, throughout April 2012. There is also a static exhibition held in a sister venue in each city running parallel to the festival, showcasing creative artwork relevant to raising awareness of homelessness.

The film follows a group of people living in Freedom Tunnel- an abandoned section of the New York City underground railway system and was made with the assistance of the films subjects themselves.

THE EXHIBITION
Select participating cities will host static exhibitions featuring other visual arts! Artwork including photography, animation, painting and drawing, and graphic novels will be on display in venues near to the cinemas in which the films are screening. All work in the exhibitions has been achieved by homeless people, or created by established artists with the intention of raising awareness about homelessness. Each exhibition is tailored to feature work unique to each city, as well as a core group of material on display nationally. To find your nearest exhibition venue, check our website, facebook page, send us a tweet, or ask at your local Homeless Film Festival cinema.
