Simulation assignment
This assignment aims at simulating buck-boost converter
1. Simulate a buck-boost converter with following specifications:
• Dc voltage source: 15 V
• L=0.5 mH, C=0.1 mF
• Switching frequency: 10 kHz
• D=0.4 and 0.7 for the buck and boost converters, respectively
• Load: 2 Ω
Measure the output voltage, and inductor current for each duty cycle, separately and
explain the results. What is the peak-to-peak ripple of the output voltage (and the
inductor current)?
2. Step-down (Buck) dc-dc Converter
Nominal values:
𝑉𝑑 = 8 𝑉, 𝐿 = 20 𝜇𝐻, 𝐶 = 10 𝜇𝐹, 𝑅𝑙𝑜𝑎𝑑 = 0.5 Ω, 𝑓𝑠 = 50 𝑘𝐻𝑧, 𝐷 = 0.75
Problems:
1. Obtain the 𝑣𝑜 and 𝑖𝐿 waveforms .
2. At 0.3 ms, increase the output load as a step by connecting another load of resistance 0.5
Ω. Plot 𝑣𝑜 and 𝑖𝐿 waveforms.
3. Step-up (Boost) dc-dc Converter
Nominal values:
𝑉𝑑 = 9 𝑉, 𝐿 = 10 𝜇𝐻, 𝐶 = 50 𝜇𝐹, 𝑅𝑙𝑜𝑎𝑑 = 5 Ω, 𝑓𝑠 = 50 𝑘𝐻𝑧, 𝐷 = 0.625
Problems:
1. Obtain the 𝑣𝑜 and 𝑖𝐿 waveforms .
2. At 0.3 ms, increase the output load as a step by connecting another load of resistance 0.5
Ω. Plot 𝑣𝑜 and 𝑖𝐿 waveforms.
