Pre-reading Discussion
15 min 1. Divide students into pairs or small groups.
2. Ask them to discuss the following questions:
Discussion - Do you write a shopping list before going to the supermarket? Why or why
Prediction not?
- What are some common things people buy at the supermarket?
- Have you ever forgotten to buy something important? What did you do?
3. Elicit responses from a few students and write key vocabulary on the board
(e.g., shopping list, supermarket, fresh food).
Predict the content of the text based on key vocabulary.
- Activity:
1. Write the following words on the board:
- Shopping list, supermarket, fresh food, dairy products, out of stock,
checkout.
2. Ask students to predict what the text will be about.
3. Have them write a sentence predicting what Emma will do in the story.
4. Share a few predictions with the class
