1 a) Let A be the set of all rational numbers between 10 and 20 inclusive. Let B = (13 , 17] . Define the set B \ A. [3] b) Use Venn Diagrams to show that n A B n A nB n A B . [6] Let S {x, y, z} and T = { 0, 1, 8, 27} a) How many elements are there in the Power Set of S. b) List the Power Set of S. The relation R is defined from the Power Set of S to the set T as follows: R = {(P,q)P is a member of the Power Set of S, q T and q = [n(P)]3 c) Develop a mapping diagram for R. d) Is R an onto' function? Give reasons for your answer. e) Define the inverse relation R-1. f) Is this reverse relation a function? Give reason(s) for your answer. 3. Let U = { x x is real, 0 x 12 } A = [-3, 3) and B = (2, 7) Write A in line notation. 4. Refer to the graph of y f (x ) in the following figure. [3] [4] [2] [2] [2] [1] [4]

A store sells 2 types of cell phones, Nokia and Motorola. Because of market

competition it can sell at most 50 cell phones per werek. In order to satisfy customers taste, it sells twice as many Motorolas as Nokias. Let x be the no. of Nokia it sells in a week, and y be the no. of Motorolas it sells in a week. Write a system of inequalities to describe this situation. Please be aware of that the store cannot sell a negative quantity of phones. [4]
