TimeSys Quick Start Instructions for the AT91SAM9260-EK


Equipment Necessary
1. USB cable The cable will be used to connect the Atmel board to the host computer during the demo installation process. 2. A computer running Microsoft Windows XP or Vista The software necessary to put the demo on the Atmel board runs only on computers using the Windows XP or Vista operating system. 3. A Null modem cable with DB-9 connectors on both ends

Instructions
Users need to complete the following installation steps in order to use the demo 1. Install the SAM-BA software on host system, the next step will use this program to initialize the board Download and install the SAM-BA utility from Atmels web site at http://www.atmel.com/dyn/products/tools_card.asp?tool_id=3883 Download At91-ISP.exe from above given URL web Install SAM_BA by running the At91-ISP.exe program; agree with all of the defaults.

2. Prepare board Power off the board. Connect the USB cable to J14 on the board and a USB port on the host machine. If the flash on the board contains data, please clear it according to manufacturers instructions; otherwise, continue to the next step. Power on the board.

3. Download and Install TimeSys Demo Software Download the files timesys-bsp-at91sam9260ek.exe zip from the LinuxLink web site. Run timesys-demo-at91sam9260ek.exe. A command window will appear. Installation will take about 5 minutes. NOTE: if the program exits after a few seconds, please re-check the board configuration in step 2.

4. Prepare board for reboot Start the terminal program on the host machine, configure it to communicate with the board using 8/1/N/115200. Disconnect USB cable at J14 connecting the board to the host computer.

5. Reset the board by pressing and releasing BP1, which is located near the power connector. Linux will begin booting on the board. Boot messages will appear and the board will display a boot prompt in about 1 minute. To login, use the username root and press enter when asked for the password.
