Case Study: Customer Detail System

Scenario
A retail company wants to manage customer details efficiently to enhance customer service, loyalty programs, and
marketing campaigns. The system must store customer data, track purchases, and generate insights like frequent
buyers, top-selling products, and customer contact lists.
Requirements
1. Maintain customer details (Name, Contact Information, Address).
2. Store details of products purchased by customers (Product Name, Quantity, Purchase Date, Price).
3. Provide reports on:
o Customer purchase history.
o Total spending by customers.
o Frequently purchased products.
o Customer contact list.

2. Implementation in LibreOffice Base


Step 1: Create the Database
1. Open LibreOffice Base.
2. Select "Create a new database" and save it.
3. Create the tables Customers, Products, and Purchases using the wizard or design view.
Step 2: Define Relationships
1. Go to Tools > Relationships.
2. Link the tables:
o Connect CustomerID in Customers to CustomerID in Purchases.
o Connect ProductID in Products to ProductID in Purchases.
Step 3: Create Forms
1. Create a form for entering and viewing customer details.
2. Create a form for managing product details.
3. Create a form with subforms for recording purchases (main form for customers, subform for purchases).
Step 4: Create Queries
1. Query for customer purchase history.
2. Query to calculate total spending by customers.
3. Query to identify frequently purchased products.
4. Query to generate a customer contact list.
Step 5: Create Reports
1. Use the Report Builder to design reports based on the queries:
o Purchase history report for a specific customer.
o Report of total spending by customers.
o Product popularity report.
