MINI PROJECT: A Bicycle-Based Dynamo Battery Charger
Abstract:
This mini project explores the design and implementation of a dynamo-charged
battery system, which harnesses mechanical energy (by paddling cycle) to
generate electricity for sustainable battery charging. The system utilizes a
dynamo (a small electrical generator) to convert rotational motion into electrical
energy through electromagnetic induction. The generated energy is rectified,
regulated, and stored in rechargeable batteries for later use. The project focuses
on optimizing energy conversion efficiency, analyzing charging rates, and
testing the practicality of the system for low-power applications such as
emergency lighting, portable devices, or educational demonstrations. By
integrating simple mechanical inputs (e.g., hand-cranking or pedal-powered
mechanisms), the system demonstrates a cost-effective and eco-friendly
alternative to conventional charging methods, particularly in off-grid scenarios.
Experimental results highlight the relationship between input mechanical effort,
voltage output, and battery capacity, offering insights into renewable energy
solutions for everyday use. This project serves as a foundational model for
understanding energy conversion, storage, and sustainable technology.
